Do you think this is strange?
Interesting topic on another message board I read........a young woman posted that she is no where nearing being engaged, but decided to go to a bridal shop and try on dresses recently, basically to "see what it's like". Her boyfriend and his friends found out and have said she is "acting crazy".
I personally think it's a little bit "odd" and putting the cart before the horse, but I guess to each, her own. Discuss!!

Re: Do you think this is strange?
I think it's odd...and scarey for the guy involved. I know someone who was engaged, told her fiance she was going shopping for something for the wedding, and instead went to Buy Buy Baby and bought baby stuff. She wasn't pregnant and I don't think he was anywhere near wanting kids. They've since separated. I don't know what goes on in people's minds.

Re: Do you think this is strange?
If she enjoys doing it, its not strange. I can imagine the fun of trying on wedding dresses...its like something out of a movie. Everyone is different...
eta....I don't intend on buying an Aston Martin but I do enjoy looking at the cars at the dealership near to my office....

As a guy, I only have one thing to say to the guy involved, RUN, do not walk, RUN, RUN, RUN...........

Well, the girl is crazy. She's young. Was married and divorced and really just wanted kids. The fiance was 20 years older than her and really was just her sugar daddy. She was using him for money and wanted to have kids. She was sleeping with tons of other guys while with him. Guess he finally got smart. It's actually sad how much attention the girl craves.

I think dress up is fun even for adults. I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

Re: Do you think this is strange?
yeah, there are some definite unresolved psychological issues bubbling to the surface with that one....
trying on evening gowns for fun is like playing dress-up.... trying on wedding gowns is more like the other example... buying baby clothes when there's no baby around
heh, I have to agree.... every man should RUN RUN RUN far away
(and if I owned the bridal shop, I'd be rather irritated....)

I agree.
I'm not (that) crazy - but I remember taking a trip to a bridal salon in college and trying on dresses with my friends.
I wanted to be a nun at the time and was NEVER planning on having that kind of wedding - but it was fun to try on the dresses!

Re: Do you think this is strange?
A lot of people count their chickens before they hatch when they maybe shouldn't....not something I would do, but I have heard of others doing it. I won't judge ...maybe she was excited, misled, sad inside, overly hopeful, etc. If I don't know her or her exact situation, who am I to say?

Re the above quote: And what exactly was HE using her for? I personally see some one sidedness in this story. You say guess he finally got smart? Wouldn't it have been smarter to NOT date someone 20 years younger than yourself in the FIRST place? Common sense says she would be young and immature. Shouldn't a GROWN man 20 yrs her senior know this??? And WHO is the one with the problem here??
The odds are he would KNOW she wants to get married, have kids, that he was the "Sugar" daddy, etc. In this particular case (only the above quote), they BOTH sound dysfunctional to me and I don't feel sorry for him at all. Some men just want fun and games, but make a jerk out of a woman when she starts to fall for them. Shame on this grown man for dating such a young girl.

Re: Do you think this is strange?
If you go on LIW there are a bunch of women there that post way before they get engaged, even pick out places and put deposits on them. Maybe they are but I always felt that was odd. Sure I looked at magazines and got ideas before I got engaged, but my DH would run if he ever knew I picked places or booked things with out him!

Oh definitely. I don't think he didn't really know what he was getting into dating someone so much younger. But it didn't seem like he was using her because according to her they rarely slept together or fooled around and that's why she was with other guys. I think for him it was more about just being able to say "this is my girlfriend" because she is young and many men consider her beautiful.
She's just dysfunctional on so many levels and because I know her and only met the ex-fiance a couple of times I can't really say much about him.

Re: Do you think this is strange?
My first thought is - she's crazy.
And then I thought about it for a second - I used to say that I NEVER wanted to get married - and I meant it when I said it. But for some crazy reason, I was on the knot looking at dresses because I really liked looking at gowns.
Go figure.

Re: Do you think this is strange?
It reminds me of that episode of Friends where Monica picks up a wedding dress for someone and she wears it all day. Then at the end all the girls are hanging out in wedding dresses. A bit odd, but harmless.

Re: Do you think this is strange?
My mother tried to get me to do this because Vera Wang was having a sample sale...i told her she was nuts ! I just got married 7 months ago and did not go try on anything until I had a ring.
I would not have that kind of extra time, I have to many other things to do on the weekends.
