NO.. but I WANT one!!!
I priced them out last year... ****'s had the best price that I found. Dicks, Sports Authority.. you'll get better prices there as opposed to a random bike shop...

Re: Do you own a bicycle?
I'm of no help as to where we got ours (we got it at Sweet Cycles here in TX). We're not prof. cyclists, so the bikes we have are for a casual ride being that we like to ride the trails in our area with the kids.
DH wanted to get us Treks but those lil seats alone made me cringe, so we agreed on diamondbacks.

Re: Do you own a bicycle?
Yes-but it is sitting in my shed with two flat tires. In any case, it's not a bikers-bike, it's a comfy, cruising around the neighborhood bike with a nice big comfy seat for my comfy seat.
Got it at sears (I think), years ago.

Re: Do you own a bicycle?
I had a great one, got stolen.
Now I have a touring one with a basket in the front and a baby on the back. Its a great bike, I got it so cheap from craigslist.
DH invested in a great bike...The store is a chain, Sun Ski and Sport...not sure if they have one up there or not.
Full suspension is the key. There is no ride like it.
If you are into mountain riding, the lighter the bike the better. For trails, a heavier bike is okay.
If you are looking for a road bike, definitely go used. People buy them, use them a few times and they are done. I had a trek(stolen as well)...great ride.
If you ever leave the bike, its going to be stolen. One day we had 3K worth of bikes stolen off the street(his and mine). The chain was seriously something you would tie around a warehouse gate or something, super thick.
Here, in NC, we use a kryptonite chain. It is guaranteed all over the world(except NYC)

Re: Do you own a bicycle?
Yes - we got them at Sports Authority.
We have hybrid bikes - 1/2 mountain bike, 1/2 cruiser. Iron Horse makes them and we spent about $600 on both of them together.
We aren't hardcore mountain bikers so the hybrid was perfect for us. We wanted something we could cruise in and still take on trails.
We LOVE them and I'm sad I can't really ride this spring.
The seats and handlebars are really comfortable. Our favorite place to ride is Corona park. We bring lunch and picnic there too.
This is what my bike looks like, except mine is a maroon color:

Re: Do you own a bicycle?
Have a 10 year old mountain bike bought at Ski Stop in Plainview. Extremely uncomfortable for everyday riding.
I'm planning on buying one of those old fashioned touring bikes with the white wall tires that you can sit upright on. There's a bike shop right by me in my town so if they're competitive, I'd like to buy local. There's also a bike shop in Stony Brook that I have a coupon for.

Re: Do you own a bicycle?
I had a bike, but had to get rid of it due to limited shed space and I didn't really ride it anymore. As for the bike to get, it depends on what you want to do. If you're going to be on pavement all the time, the bikes with the very thin wheels are ideal. If you're going on rugged terrain, the extra thick tire bikes with suspension is a must. There are also hybrids that provide a mix between road bikes and mountain bikes. I usually opt with the hybrid as my riding preferences would vary, and if I got one now, I'd make sure it had disc brakes instead of rim brakes (the brakes on cheaper models). Of course the features you'll get will depend on how much you're willing to spend. Good luck!

Re: Do you own a bicycle?
I used to have a great bike. Then I stopped riding.
Rob had a good Mongoose - which is now mine because he upgraded to a Cannondale. He rides ALL the time.
He got the latest one at some bike shop on Main Street in Islip.

cute!
this hybrid seems like it would be good for us since we could use it tooling around the city AND in Prospect Park.
Greenie...a touring bike also sounds very appealing...but are they sturdy/good for a bit of trail or at least paved hills?
Janice- thanks for the info. you are where my wallet is!

The one I'm in the market for - comfort/touring - is definitely not for trails. Rusty doesn't have a problem with the mountain bike so we can still ride together if we want. But I want the bike for exercise, enjoyment, and trips to the store.
Most bikes on websites are categorized by how you're going to use it. If you want it for comfort with a little heavy duty, the hybrid is probably best. Amazon probably has lots of reviews.

We both have Treks...I have a comfort seat and DH has more of a hybrid bike. One was purchased at Brands in Wantagh and one was purchased at a local shop in Huntington.

Re: Do you own a bicycle?
We want to get them, but I'm nervous about putting the kids in the seats on the back or the trailer thing behind it. I'm afraid I'll fall and hurt them, or the trailer will come unattached.
When I get over my irrational fear, we'll probably get them from Brands.

DH and I have mountain bikes, but we bought them OOS.
I love my bike but would recommend a hybrid bike unless you're planning to ride mostly on rough trails.

Re: Do you own a bicycle?
I've got an older Diamondback hard-tail (no suspension at all actually), and a several year old Trek full-suspension bike. Not top-of-the-line, but definitely high-end. I love "mountain bike" trail riding.... not many mountains on LI, though.... mostly just aggressive off-road trail riding.
For casual riding, you don't need to get a semi-custom high-end bike. Bikes from the chain stores are fine. I got my Trek from Byron Lake Schwinn, but I heard they went out of business. My Diamondback was from Carl Hart in Middle Island.
Seats can always be changed/upgraded, so don't pick a bike based on the seat.
