I do! Either because they no longer fit the look that I'm going for or because I purchased it online, sight unseen and was disappointed w/the quality. Please don't tell me I'm alone in this!

-i purchased a side table online and it is soo cheap looking! i'm trying to figure out how i can hide it but still use it! Chat Icon

-MB bedding. this too i ordered online and was disappointed with the quality.

-framed artwork--now a little too modern for my taste

-couch and leather chair from my apartment--again a little too modern for my taste now, but its staying for now!

-kitchen table and chairs--had these in my apartment and they are pretty boring looking.

refrigerator--it suits its purpose, but i wish i would've purchased something a little nicer like w/french doors and bottom freezer.

Re: Do you have any home purchase regrets?

One of my biggest home purchases was my Kitchen. I find things wrong with the cabinets all the time. If I had to do it over again, I would hire a different contractor and spend more money on higher end cabinets. Now don't get me wrong, I love my kitchen and it is beautiful, but there are the little things that I wish I had done more research on.

Like:
- Larger sink
- Cabinets without the wood beam in the middle, so I can't have pull outs.
- should have had the contractor put our door handles on too because they still aren't on. Chat Icon
- Quite close drawers
- And all around just a better quality cabinet. (I'm sure they will last for years, but with the money we spend we should have just done them ourselves).

Live and learn.

As for buying things online, I try not to do that to much. I don't like to be disappointed like you said.

ETA: I would have also done my HW floors a different color and have done Gloss instead of satin finish.

Two big spend projects that should have been done differently. Welcome to homeownership. Chat Icon

Re: Do you have any home purchase regrets?

Paint works wonders. If your side table and kitchen table and chairs are boring you can paint them a fun color (or even white if they are wood color) and if they have upholstered seats change the fabric to make them less boring.

As for the framed artwork, you can switch out the art and even paint the frames.

When we got our first apartment in NY we bought this huge sectional and it has come with us to FL. I wish we would have bought something smaller like a sofa with a loveseat or oversized chair & ottoman. Oh well, it's staying for now!

I also wish we would have just bought a new fridge when we bought all our other appliances for the kitchen. The fridge, which is stainless steel and only 5 yrs old, was the only appliance the previous owners left so we figured we'd save the money and have it fixed (it wasn't cooling properly) instead of buying a new one. I'm glad we were able to save money on that, but there are some really nice refrigerators out there that I wish we could get... plus the one we have now is a side by side and I hate that.

Re: Do you have any home purchase regrets?

Yes! A large custom made "theater/media style" sofa for my family room.

The thing cost me $3,500 and I don't even LOVE it.

Looks like this but with different fabric, arms and legs.

External Image

I also bought an entertainment center, but at least I got it for a huge bargain so I won't feel bad selling it or putting it in the basement.

I wish I would've done what Camacho said - gone with separate sofa & loveseat and overstuffed chair. My furniture layouts are so limited because of this huge piece.

Live and Learn, right???

Re: Do you have any home purchase regrets?

overall I love my kitchen, but I wish we would not have listened to the cabinet guy and just ordered the larger corner base unit so we could have had a lazy susan inside!! w/ the bigger cabinet our sink would have been slightly off center from the window above, but now that its in, I wouldn't have cared if it was off center!! the "blind" corner unit he ordered us instead doesn't use all of the space in the corner and it has the smallest most annoying door!! Chat Icon

I wish we would have waited to do our cement over in our driveway.....DH was in a hot rush to get it done and we've already stained it a little b/c we're still working on the house and when DH demo'd he put messy stuff in the backyard.....we'll have to powerwash this summer and hope that it all comes out!!

Re: Do you have any home purchase regrets?

Defintely my LaZBoy sectional. It looked amazing in our condo, but taking it to the new house it has taken a beating -- still can't figure out why since the dog *usually* is never on it.

It's also HUGE. Again, great in the large condo but not great in my small "man's den." I would (and will hopefully in the Spring/Summer) go with some sort of smaller combo so we can break it up and place the TV in a better location.

I wish I never bought our entertainment center. We bought it when we lived in our apartment. But now it doesn't suit the room we have it in in the house. It will eventually go in the basement and I'll get something that I like.

Re: Do you have any home purchase regrets?

My biggest regret is our living room furniture set. I loved it in the store, but a few weeks after we got it, I realized that I really don't love it very much. It's just ok...what I had liked about it originally is that is has the end seats that recline, but they don't LOOK like recliners.

Eh, the way I figure, they'll be full of baby spit-up and we'll wind up getting new ones down the road. Chat Icon

I usually wait a while to buy something once I find it. Often I'll figure out I don't really like before I go back to purchase it.

I wish I would have slurged on the sleeper sofa instead of the regular sofa for our basement.
We are having 7 adult house guests for Thanksgiving & we'll need to use an aerobed now. The pullout sofa would have been much better.

Re: Do you have any home purchase regrets?

Off the top of my head

My couches: chenille material and pilled like a mofo from day 1. Extended warranty covered almost everything except...pilling Chat Icon I've shaved them 2x since we own them but I'm not inclined to buy anything new at the moment

My granite: It's black galaxy. It looks great with my cabinets. But it shows every single fingerprint. And it makes my kitchen darker. It's staying though so I have forgiven it for being a PITA.

Vanity in bathroom. Too big for the bathroom and esp hard with helping my kids with their baths & showers and such. I've already planted the seed in my DH's mind to swap it out for a pedastal (sp?) or smaller cabinet.

Cathedal ceiling in LR. Makes the place noisier and the heat all goes up there. Looks beautiful though. Live and learn with this one.

I'm sure there is other stuff.

Same here. And what bothers me most is whatever I bought was for THIS house, which we thought might be our forever home. But now we plan to move for sure and what I bought may not be what I want for our next house....or even work in it. Oh well.

A pine bedroom set when we were newly married--never ever will I buy pine again Chat Icon

Cheap microfiber couches--I should have listened to my DH and got the leather that we later replaced them with.

Valspar paint--wound up repainting the 2 rooms with BM 2 years later.

I've learned to save up and get good quality stuff instead of buying cheap because you truly get what you pay for..

This is me and is why my house is only half furnished-I can't make a decision for fear of changing my mind.

I've wasted $200 on fabric for curtains for our bedroom and never used it. I am not excited about the bedding I just bought and the paint color I chose for our room but felt I needed to do something since we have been in our house over a year. I bought a cabinet for the formal LR that I now don't like, same for the mirror hanging over it. Also, the furniture I bought for this room is too contemporary for me now. I replaced the curtains in our Family room AND I want to replace the end tables and book case I bought for the family room. I guess it would be easier to say what I am happy with!

All purchased within the last 1.5 years.
