do you ever feel completely misunderstood?

and no matter how you try to explain yourself...somehow what you are really trying to say gets lost in other's interpretations?

It frustrates me to no end when that happens...but I am trying to learn to let it go.

it's not easy though...b/c I feel when that happens that what I am saying is changed into something that isn't real or true...and from that other's perceptions of how I think or feel are changed into the false interpretation.

I am not very comfortable with that.Chat Icon

I don't care if people get annoyed/pi$$ed/whatever by something that i said and meant, but when it's by misinterpretation, i can't deal with it. SOOOOO frustrating!!! Chat Icon

mostly on here. b/c it is written..and you can have so many more people involved in a thread.

so many times threads morph into something so completely different than what they started out as...and something that was meant to be about 1 thing becomes a "telephone-esque" bastardized...or even alien version of what it once was.

Re: do you ever feel completely misunderstood?

Yes.
People decide who I am and what I am about based on the pieces of me they see and the parts I choose to share.

I know people who think I am fabulous, selfless and sweet.
I know people who think I am bratty, selfish and a grade A ******.

People create what they want. ALL the time. It's what we do - whether we realize it or not.

I know who I am.
The people who have taken the time and invested the energy into getting to know me - know who I am.

Everyone else? Whatever.

Whatever makes it easier for them is fine by me. If talking sh*t about me makes people sleep better at night... good for them. If thinking I am nicer than I am comforts them - so be it.

I agree.

It pretty much happens to everyone, and (whether someone realizes it or not), pretty much everyone is guilty of doing it to others at some point.

I always say it like this....The first time someone is "nasty" to me ...I let it fly. BUT if they are continuously "nasty" to me or others...then it makes sense that they are just an unhappy person. I think we can all agree that some people are not just "misunderstaood" some people thrive on not being nice or causing drama.

I don't feel misunderstood as much as I feel that people choose to ignore what is clearly stated because it doesn't suit their argument.

That's just the nature of the beast.. when you have so many people contributing to a conversation you're going to get many who will misinterpret it or take things out of conext.. And those who contribute nothing thought provoking or benefitial to it at all. They may have their own agenda, who knows...

Also, It seems people just aren't objective enough to say there are valid arguments on both sides.. which can become VERY frustrating..

I know with recent 'spinoff' threads, there are people who weren't involved in previous conversations and are misunderstood to what the intention of the thread is...

I'm sure it is equally frustrating when you're passionate about a certain subject and it results to people posting cat pictures.

To answer your original question:
No, I don't feel misunderstood most of the time because I really don't put forth an effort FOR people to understand me.. Most of my conversations (on here at least) are on the surface only..

and this is probably true too.

BUT if someone is telling you "no, I am sorry, that's not what I mean" and the wrong argument continues...then what??

I get that everyone can easily do it...but if someone makes an attempt to clear up the misconceptions and the ill-informed (or rather malformed-is that a word LOL) opinions still flourish and are fed from...then what happens to you...as the OP...or as the poster whose words are now still attributed to you...but are no where near what you meant them to be?

Great point! Sometimes when the threads become 3-5 pages long, a reader becomes so angry that instead of giving a valid argument, they are defensive. It doesnt matter what an innocent bystander says. That person is already heated and theres no turning back.

I think once you get to this point, there really isn't much you can do.

I suppose if the person eventually understands what you *are* trying to say and answers the question you are asking and not some variation or misconception of it you could ask them to "edit" their original (and incorrect) responses.

Yes. I feel like people completly miss the point of my posts. But, I also have a hard time articulating myself, so I think that adds to the problem.

Re: do you ever feel completely misunderstood?

Yes I do feel completely Misunderstood on this board sometimes, But i've learned that it's my fault because i could've have thought out and reread what i wrote before posting it and for that i deserve to get flamed by people. But now from having people fm me in the past or just in general say Ro can you explain what you meant by your thread, I now search on google to spell things better and use my punctuation's in the right spots yes i still mess up...lol . YES i still do make mistakes but i'm only human and having wonder people on this site tell me, I'm learning from my mistakes and I'm trying to be 'BETTER' at expressing myself a little more and i'm taking criticism better .I dont get upset anymore and I thank you all for helping me to be a 'BETTER' person...Ok i'm repeating myself now.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
