We enjoy life!! We do try to save as well, but not as much as some people do. In the past 5 years, me and DH have gone of more vacations, then some go on in a life time. We love to eat out, go skiing, shop. I always tell people that it is great to save but, you have to enjoy life.
Of course you don't want to enjoy to much and go into debt.
I work with someone who is 23 and is always talking about how him and his girlfriend don't eat out, go on vacation,because they need to start saving for retirement, a house, etc... This is great, but you are only young once. You can't live your life this way IMO.
As someone posted above, you can't take it with you, and you will never have enough. You need to find a balance.
I TOTALLY agree with you. I wish my dh was more of a saver but he is not so I do the bills but I also like that he has the attitude that he wants to enjoy life. You need to find a balance and we try and do that.

I have to say that we are trying to save save save because we want a house so bad..but it's really hard.
My motto has always been you can't take it with you when you go so enjoy it while you can..but now with the baby coming..and wanting a house..can't think that way anymore.
Prior to the wedding..we were enjoying it though

We try to do a bit of both. Saving is important, but so is enjoying life. Lets face it, you never know what tomorrow will bring. I'm not saying live every day like its your last, but you don't want to end up with regrets.
I know I'd want to look back on my life and say "wow, I had a lot of fun." Not "wow, I saved a lot of money."

um, we spend- not frivoulously but I also hate living very frugally. That is not to say Im not a bargain shopper- I totally am and Im not a slave to brand names or anything but I like to be able to eat out if I feel like it and do things on the weekends, buy clothes if I want to etc. I like to enjoy my life but also be responsible to my bills. We work all day -to not enjoy life seems silly to me. I hate anaylzing every dollar that comes in.

I think I'm a little of both - I save some money - but also like to do a lot of things and go a lot of places.

ITA with you. I go another board who people who tell me about family members who are millionaires who are extremely frugal, live in trailer homes and drive very, very old cars and never spend a dime. Some are even saving their own money to give it all away when they die. I think it is great to contribute but what is YOUR life about then? I need a balance of both so I don't feel like I am not enjoying myself.

save, save, save.....I really enjoy not worrying about money and am completely content going on weekend trips vs. long vacations, buying inexpensive clothing, and finding budget friendly things to do on the weekend...our only real splurge is going out to dinner ALOT

right now, we are trying to pay down cc's. we are doing well so far so i'm not complaining. we still have some $ for a vacation and for dinners out.

We do both. They cannot bury us with our money. He who dies with the most money, still dies. If we work so hard to make it, than we should work just as hard to enjoy it. This is our philosophy.

I think we have a decent balance. We don't have a ton of savings, but we also have no debt. We try to take 1 good vacation a year and then 1 or 2 little ones. We have a habit of saving for something big and then spending it all and having to start over. Last year it was a new deck, now we're saving to renovate out kitchen.

We do both, but probably more save save save - we're both kinda cheap and have always been good savers. We do like to go out to eat though, well once a week. All in moderation.

In all honesty though, we made traveling a priority, so for now, we're just having fun doing that!

We have a good balance but I definately think at times we need to save more....Unfortunately you can't have all you want in life unless it is within your means!

we're more on the save side of things...if we get a chunk of money (like when DH sold his condo) we spent some on a trip (4%), the rest invested.

dh loves to enjoy... because he always lived at home, so he didn't have real expenses.
i've been a single-mom for 12 years, i want to save.
i hope we find a middle-ground SOON

We own a lovely home, have a healthy baby, good pension plans and are relatively debt free so we enjoy life! My grandfather always said "you can't take $$ with you when you go so enjoy" Granted if we saved more we could probably have the Lexus RX330 and Infiniti G35x that we like but the Altima and Saturn do just fine for us. I guess it's all relative based on personal preferences.

We manage to do both, we can at this time of our lives. No kids yet and no massive monthly payments, we also know when to stop...well DH does I still have a hard time sometimes. Im a diehard spender.
