Do you do work yourselves because...

- you enjoy it

or

- you don't have the budget to pay someone else?

We are doing most work ourselves. We are only paying people to do some very select things. If we had a huge budget, I would pay someone to do it. But I think DH would still want to do it himself, he really enjoys doing this stuff.

ETS: I probably should have said I would hire people to do stuff but not EVERYTHING!! There are some things I do enjoy.
I think I am just frustrated with my own house, LOL. I just want to move in already!! I know we had hired people instead of doing it ourselves it would probably be done already.

But we will get the satifcation of knowing we did it ourselves, and I am proud of that. I do have the most recent pics, I'll post them later.

We do it for both reasons. Both DH & I enjoyed doing the rennovations that we were "capable" of doing. We wanted the sense of accomplishment when it was done. At the same time, there were things we just paid people to do bc we didn't have the time & it just made more sense.

if money were no object I would hire someone for many things, but sometimes its fun and rewarding to do yourself. Also doing it yourself can be done when you feel like not on a contractors time.

I think a mix of the two.

Certain things we would still do but, we would definitely hire someone to do more than we are if we had more $$$. Our kitchen would've been done a lot faster (it's still not done!)

we are definitly a mix of the 2....we just redid our bathroom, did everything ourselves except for the plumbing and the electricity. It gave us a great deal of satisfaction.

We did what we could ourselves. There is definitely a huge sense of accomplishment to be felt when you can see your own work on a daily basis.

Anything that required work that we didn't know how to do (floors, electric, plumbing) we hired someone to come in and do it for us. There is no sense to do things that require a professionals touch.

For me, it's partly because I enjoy it, partly because I don't like having to fix what the "professional" did, or have to live with what they did. I've had contractors and/or professionals do different work around the house. I'm often not happy with their work. I actually had to rewire some of the phone lines after they came and ran new wires to the house. They tested the lines from the outside box to the pole, but the wires were mixed up, so none of the inside phones worked!
I'm not happy with how the siding looks on the one section we had redone recently. Projects like that, however, I just can't physically do myself, so I'm kind of stuck.

we do it cause we are capable, and because we think it is a waste to pay someone else to do it, unless neither dh or my dad know how to do it..

we enjoyed it at first, but now I would just want to hire someone t do it all. It would be worth it to have more quality time with DH - doing something other than home improvement/cleaning/yard work.

A mix of the two as well. But DH is very creative when it comes to building and creating things, and our house is his canvas for the most part. He enjoys it very much creating something with his own unique ideas that are very different.

We will hire a spackler though. Painting is up in the air. As much as I'd love to hire someone........if we run out of $$, we're gonna have to do it ourselves.

The picture you have as your avatar could be an exact picture of my DH . He is doing sooooooooo much work! I have a new found respect for him. I knew he was handy but I had no idea just HOW handy...he can actually build things!! We do have people doing the electric (rewiring the whole house and adding things) and plumbing (redoing 1 bathroom and adding 1/2 bath).

If we had lots of $$ we would definately be hiring people to do it!

we do it ourselves def. because of the money. We just can't afford or justify paying somebody.

We primarily do our own work because we want to, but we're also budget conscious (we're pretty frugal when it comes to manual labor. )

DH and I get a lot of satisfaction when projects are completed, plus my DH enjoys learning new things. I don't think I could of married (or even dated) a guy who wasn't handy.

We do it for both reasons. First of all, we don't have the money to pay someone. And second of all, doing the work ourselves makes us really feel part of the process and like it truly is our house.

DH does everything himself and it drives me insane because it take FOREVER (he works 6 days a week!). He likes it and he tries to save money, but on the other hand, something that could be done in 1 weekend if we hired someone takes 6 months. We have the money, I wish he would hire someone for the main construction work we are doing!

We do a lot ourselves -- it is not because we don't have the money to pay someone else, but because we have family in the business so know how much overpriced things are

We're lucky....DH is very handy and we have lots of friends and family who are also and can help. We saved so much $ in labor when we re-did our home. We gutt the bathrooma nd most of the kitchen, so you know it is big bucks . SOme stuff we do becuase we like it, like yard work, painting, etc.
