no. I don't think it's necessary or appropriate to by my boss a gift.
I used to bake for the holidays and would give him a basket of cookies but that's about it.

My co-worker and I have always chipped in and bought our boss a gift.
But, we all work closely together and are very friendly. He gives us gifts on top of our bonuses, so we only feel it's right to reciprocate.

We all chip in for something for the 2 bosses. One of them is very gracious. But the other, not so much.
Last Christmas, as he opened his presents, he said things like, "What is this? I don't want this." and tried to give them away to other people at the table. I kid you not.
So I don't think I'm chipping in for him this year. He has a lot of money and is fond of telling people how he spends it.
I would rather spend my money on people who appreciate it.

No but this year I'm at a new office and was told we WILL be getting the boss a gift. We, however, do not get a bonus.

My company is very small. This year I am going to make cookie baskets for my 2 boss's and the other 2 guys that work there.
ETA: Last year, I had only been there a couple of months so I had an edible arrangement sent to the office. He really appreciated and liked it.

No. I work in a school and besides maybe some cookies and a card, i don't give the principal a gift. The teachers do chjip in though and get something for the custodians and the secretaries.

Nope. Against Ethics rules, so definitely not. I do send out holiday cards to all my co-workers though so get the boss that way.

Yes, most of the teachers in my building get together and chip in for gifts for the main office staff (including the principal). It kills me to do this though, because we get SQUAT from her. And I'm not even talking about just Christmas. Most teachers get $ to purchase materials for their classrooms. We get NOTHING. AND, we don't even get a "thank you" from her for the Christmas gift. Can you tell this annoys the hell out of me???
