ETA: I don't associate karma with bad things, I associate it mostly with good things because, not for nothing, I'd like the karma that comes back to me to be good, not bad. So if you think it's just an excuse for a bad situation, then maybe look at it from the opposite, and then, who cares if it's real? As long as you are paying it forward, eventually it WILL come back to you. I honestly, honestly believe that. But those people who put forth good energy will most likely be surrounded by it, hence it coming back to them, and vice versa with people who put forth bad karma. I don't know if that made sense. I've had too much to drink

I don't believe in karma as in an abstract concept. I believe you make your own way in this world. You create your own destiny.
I do believe if you step on enough people on the way up the ladder, those are the ones that kick you on the way down. So what comes around, goes around in those situation.
