Do people really do this???
We went out to dinner with some friends last night and we told them that DD is just about to start walking. One friend said when you see her taking steps, push her down. I always heard people say that in the past, but it got me thinking do people really do that??

Really? A baby learning to walk? I wouldn't even think of it! (and I have a baby now beginning to walk).
However, the concept isn't all that lost on me. I get it. My DH did it to me once.  When we first started dating and we went skiing - it was my first time EVER on skis, and I was 28. He was giving me lessons, being he is an expert skier and all. I get my boots and skis on and he then says to me "ready for your first lesson?" Before I can even answer, he knocks me over and says "first lesson is learning to get up with skis on when you fall".
I must have really loved him because I didn't punch him!

They will fall down over and over on their own. Why would you push a baby down? Sounds mean to me. Never heard of anyone doing that. Sure they weren't pulling your chain?

That sounds like child abuse. Why would anyone push a child down? They fall down enough on their own when learning to walk. I really hope that your friend was joking about it...

What??? This sounds like the person was making a mean spirited joke. I can't imagine anyone actually doing this, at least not anyone that should be left to care for a baby. They usually fall down shortly after they take their first steps anyway so why anyone would be so mean is beyond me. This also sounds like a good way to make your child not trust you.

What? Were they joking? Like in that movie where they the parents leave the baby to the couple and he pushes her down to give the girl time to get the video camera to tape it?

Maybe that's what they meant lol seriously I couldn't imagine doing that. I wouldn't say it's abusive but a bit weird.

Um yeah, that's a great way to help them develop a fear of walking.
Sounds like a GREAT plan.
Actually sounds like something my great grandma would have recomended back in 1920... along with the other old wive's tales.

Haha, people said this to me all the time - it's a very common joke. They say it because once they start walking they don't slow down - and you don't get to sit down. I highly doubt people are going around shoving babies.
