Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
We are going to disney soon with my 2 kids (one will be 12 months and one almost 6)
I was planning on using my uppa baby g luxury (lightweight stroller) for my 12 month old.
But what do I do for my DD. obviously she doesn't go in a stroller anymore lol but will she be too tired without having one in disney. My friend offered me her citimini double however I wasn't feeling folding up a double stroller every time we have to get on disney buses (we are staying at AKL so obviously will be on the buses a lot). Would it make sense to rent a stroller in the parks for her? Or should I suck it up and bring the double? (Ugh)
I was thinking maybe renting in MK etc. or brining a cheap umbrella stroller for her ( but truthfully she's over the weight limit on them and she's tall).

Re: Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
I would play it by ear and rent the 6yo a double at a park on an as-needed basis. This way you don't have to lug it on/off the buses. I have even seen bigger/older kids in wheel chairs that parents rent for the day, LOL. Might be cheaper than the stroller!

Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
My DD is going to be 5 in 2 weeks. Last summer we went to Aruba and took our McClaren umbrella stroller. At the time- she was the size of a 6 year old-- wearing size 7 in clothes. LOL Yes, she was too heavy for it- but we were glad to have it. She usually conked out right at or after dinner. We'd bring it to dinenr with us and she'd always fall asleep and we could walk around with her. Do you have an umbrella stroller you can bring?

Re: Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
I would not rent in the parks. They are very uncomfortable and then you have two strollers and nothing later if you leave at night and she is crashing.
I just rented a double down there. I thought it would be a pain with the buses but it was really fine. Plus it was nice to in crowds esp at rope drop or end of the night to not have my older one getting crushed in crowds.
Could you bring a cheap umbrella for the airport for the baby and rent a citi mini gt down there. Less to carry, and you don't risk your stroller getting broken by the airline.

I'm so confused! Lol. I guess I could but it wasn't a Pain with the double on the buses?

Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
I would just bring the double. You will be a little inconvienenced with the busses, but other than that you will be fine and will have 2 seats for the kids when they need them. I have heard the rented strollers are very uncomfortable. Your husband will be the one bringing it on and off the bus anyway ha!

As long as you are not alone. It was fine. DH took the backpack and the stroller. I took the kids. Your older can walk next to you. If you had say two little ones that needed to be carried it would be harder but with one older one it wa fine. I even took the stroller and one of the kids to the MK to the barber shop alone once and DH and the other child joined us a little later. So many have strollers. I sit with the kids and DH would either stand off to the side or find a seat he could keep the stroller with him. We rented the city mini GT. One trick do not pack the stroller until you get off the bus. Put the things into a plastic bag, then put the water or whatever into the stroller once you get there so you are not packing and unpacking and can fold it quickly. The city mini gt is a very quick fold. Just don't do a huge jogging stroller. The ones with those huge joggers looked miserable, but we have done 4 trips with a citi mini (two times with ours and two trips with a rented gt.

Don't do two!!! I know some think it is great, but now you have to search for two strollers in the sea of them. They won't be kept together (cast members move them around). So you have to hunt for two rather than one. Your older one can walk if you split up, you don't have two babies you need to do that. Also now unless your DH takes both strollers on the bus, you now have to each juggle a stroller and a kid and bags. Much easier for one yo handle the stroller and bags, and the other adult the kids. Especially if it is crowded I sat and held one kid or both, if you have a stroller and one seat it is more complicated.
Also, city mini has a much better sun cover and full recline, which is good in the Florida sun or for naps.

Ok. I guess you made up my mind lol!!! I will do the citi double. Now my next thing I'm confused about is this- let me know what you think-
Should I bring my light weight Uppa baby g lux for my son for the airport etc. and then rent the citi down in Disney?
Or do I see if I can borrow a double citi up here in NY and just travel with that?

yup- this! your stroller most likely won't be where you parked it after you come out for a ride. the cast members move them around to make room for more. so if you have 2 of them, you'll have 2 to track down, and 2 to carry on the busy i would borrow your friends city mini double- that way you'll have a seat for both kids if you need it (or an extra seat to put all your stuff in! HAHAHA) AND the one hand fold on those is SO easy for getting on and off the buses. and YES!!! the recline and sun shade on the city mini is great!!! DS will be almost 5 when we go down in september (his bday is in november) and we're taking our single city mini down with us.... mostly bc of the full recline if he gets tired during the day. we can just lay it back for him for him to take a rest, rather than feeling like we have to go back to the resort.

Now you need to use an authorized renter to have it left with bell services. Much easier than having to wait for pick up and drop off. We rented from kingdom strollers our last trip. Raincover, and stroller were waiting at bell services when we arrived, you just walk over and pick it up. It will have signs with your name on it which makes it easier to find. You can also order cases of bottled water from them. So easy. It was with bell services.
I would recommend the mini GT double over the citi mini. I used to own the citi mini and have twice rented the GT. It has much better wheels, adjustable handle, but it also accommodates a child up to 48 inches versus 44 inches for the citi mini. Your older one will be more comfortable.
Do you have a cheapy umbrella stroller for the plane. I would not bring anything good in case it gets damaged. Pretty much every flight I see someone complaining about damage. Might be worth getting one of those really cheap ones rather than taking a stroller you care about if you only want it for the airport.

Re: Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
We rented a double City Mini (probably a GT, but I don't remember) last summer when DS1 was 5.5 and DS2 was almost 2. It was great. We rented though Baby Wheels Orlando. DH dealt with the stroller on the bus. It was only a PITA when the bus was crowded. Most of the time, there wasn't an issue. DS1 definitely got tired at times so it was really nice to have. They were both very comfortable in the stroller and the sun shades were good. We also had a really cheap umbrella stroller that we bought at BRU just to use at the airport.

Baby wheels was great for our first rental. But unless things have changed they were not an authorized company with wdw so they told me they had to arrange pick up and drop off because you cannot use bell services.

That's true, but we had no issues with this at all. We arrived in the afternoon and the stroller was there within an hour or so of our arrival to the hotel. There were no issues with having them pick the stroller up in the morning of our last day.

Re: Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
Are you staying on-site or off? If off, I would absolutely not bring a double stroller. I cannot even imagine trying to fold that thing for the trams from the parking lot to the TTC at the MK, or even on the trams at the other parks. We have done without a stroller at 6, walking was fine, but obviously you know your child best.

We were in Disney this past December for DD's 7th birthday. I brought the stroller. It enabled DH & I to walk around the parks after 8 pm while DD slept, instead of being tied to the hotel.

I would borrow your friend's double and bring it. Maybe we are just used to it but I think it is easy to take gate check a double stroller. 3yo sit in double stroller. 5yo walks. I put my bag and carry on in the second seat.
We often push the double stroller with only one kid. No big deal.

I would rent there. I have seen too many broken strollers by the airlines. It is one thing if it was your own, but I would be hesitant to bring someone else's in case it gets broken.

Re: Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
My stroller was very clean with both companies we rented from. They remove the fabric from the seats and really clean them. Mine were definitely used strollers but very clean. I am a bit OCD about that stuff. I was very comfortable putting my kids in them and I wipe airplane seats down etc.

I'd leave your stroller at home and rent a double stroller from a company down there - I rented from I THINK it's baby wheels orlando - 2 years in a row, EXTREMELY clean strollers, very reasonable pricing - Your 6 year old will be tired and want to sit

Re: Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
I wouldn't rent at the parks for a 6 year old unless your child is on the small size. I tried that once and my son was just too big (we only rented when we needed it.
WE go to Disney nearly every year and tried many options. I found bringing 2 light weight was easiest for us when we had two of different ages. Dh and I often split up because older kids and younger kids like different rides. My kids run on tall side so make height requirements of bigger rides young and are daredevils so will try them young. I have brought the double when we had similar ages together and weren't splitting up. Never had issues with double on bus but I had a double maclaren - not sure if smaller than others. I have never rented from a place and always bring mine with me (never had an airport issue). At 6, I couldn't use a stroller anymore though...my sons would break a maclaren (actually did once!).

Having the double on the bus is going to be barely different than having the single. Either way it has to get collapsed. IMHO renting in the parks makes no sense bc you won't have the stroller at the times you need it most, which for us is leaving the parks, getting from the bus to the room, walking around after dinners. Maybe bring a bjorn type thing for the baby at the airport if you rent from a service. I personally just bring my double. They gate check it.
The most important thing with any stroller and the busses is to pack a bag or bags and then put that under the stroller. You want to be able to pull your stuff out quick to collapse. I pack in a couple of big ziplocks and bring a plastic bag. Throw ziplocks in plastic bag to collapse for bus, get out and throw the stuff in the cargo slots.

Re: Disney stroller question re- 6 year old
My DD just turned 6 when we went to Disney and I rented a double stroller for her and my DS who was 1.5 yrs old at the time. BEST thing I ever did!!! We were at the parks morning, noon, and night and my DD got tired from all of the walking and the long days. She used the stroller A LOT to take breaks throughout the day and she even napped a few times in it when she got really tired (and she stopped napping at age 3.5 yrs old). Disney is so much walking and takes so much energy that I was glad she had a place to just chill out throughout the day. I highly recommend renting a double stroller.
We used Kingdom Strollers, it was inexpensive and the stroller was delivered right to our hotel. We got the Cit Mini GT. I bought a cheap umbrella stroller at Target to use at the airport for my DS and then we used the double the whole time in Disney. It really wasn't that annoying on the buses, it folds up fast and flat. It was a godsend having that stroller in the parks with us.
