Did you put shoes on your DC when they were learning to walk?

Not sure what to do about this? DD is cruising and since its been so hot I just have her barefoot or in socks. Should I have her in shoes so she can learn how to walk? They seem heavy for her legs (they are stride rites). This is a pic of the shoes (i couldn't find them on the site). Are these shoes OK?

The only time we put shoes on Kaydyn is when she is outside and will be walking.

If she is inside and walking she is barefoot.

We bought her sneakers for her first shoes. I think they eventually get used to the weight and feel of shoes.

Abby is barefoot inside until she is stable on her feet. We dont have hard floors in areas where she can cruise. Cruising areas are all carpeted. I want her to get the sensory input in her feet and for them to be able to grip the floors so we keep shoes off at home.

We didn't put Athan in shoes unless he was outside walking. Other than that - if we were inside/at home - just socks or barefoot. I then took him to Stride-Rite to get fitted properly for shoes. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

bare feet are best when learning to walk, so I didn't put shoes on them until they were fulltime walkers.

Tell me about it. I usually tell her to chill and then check over the decision here Chat Icon

same here. Jacen has always been barefoot and we only recently got him sandals for outside. But when we're inside... he goes barefoot.

He curls his toes underneath when we try to put shoes on so sandals it is. Chat Icon

DS goes barefoot inside and out. i only put his shoes on at a store when he's walking around, and half the time he pulls them off. depending on where we are i sometimes let him continue to walk around barefoot.

he's getting steadier every day barefoot, but can barely walk in shoes.

Re: Did you put shoes on your DC when they were learning to walk?

DD started to walk in the fall/winter she wore Robeez in the beginning and Striderites when she got going.. We have all wood floors, I would have preferred to leave her barefoot and she probably would have learned to walk faster but that wasn't an option for us.

I didn't put DD in shoes until she was full on walking. I even took her pumpkin picking in socks (she was cruising at the time, and taking 3-5 unassisted steps).

Re: Did you put shoes on your DC when they were learning to walk?

DS only wore socks indoors and outdoors all the time until he was full walking. (14 months) We put shoes on him about 5 times in his first year.

Now at nearly 2 years, he still runs around without shoes inside. He knows as soon as he gets shoes, it's outside time!

No. The best way for them to learn to walk is barefoot.

Re: Did you put shoes on your DC when they were learning to walk?

Thanks for posting this! People were making me also feel bad for not putting shoes on DS. He never wears them because we want him to feel the floor. Also, he hates anything on his feet.

Re: Did you put shoes on your DC when they were learning to walk?

DD was either barefoot (since it was summer) or in Robeez
