Deer Park woman, 22, charged with shaking baby niece
A Deer Park woman violently shook her 11-month-old niece, causing the baby to suffer internal bleeding, Suffolk police said.
Around 9 a.m. Wednesday, Paola Baez, 22, of Morris Drive shook her niece to stop her from crying, police said. When the baby became unresponsive and blood came out of her mouth, Baez and her husband took her to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where she told hospital staff the child fell out of a swing, police said.
Hospital staff called police because of the baby's suspicious injuries, Police said.
Baez was watching the baby while her mother was at work, police said.
The baby suffered internal bleeding and is in critical condition, police said. Baez was arraigned on charges of reckless assault of a child Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip. She was released on $1,500 bail and due back in court March 23.

I was just as Good Sam last week for a c-section class, and they focused a big deal about Shaken Baby Syndrome. The nurse was saying how this year, they did not have any cases yet in the hospital and they were very happy about that.
That poor baby.

See that's why I can't read stories like this. It makes me so mad. I wish she was right in front of me. I would make sure she would get internal bleeding.

I totally agree!
A. how stupid are you to believe that SHAKING a baby will make them stop crying?
B. how stupid are you to not know that shaking can kill a baby? We've only had warnings for the past 15 years or so!

Absolutely disgusting. In one of the schools I worked at there was a little girl who had survived Shaken Baby Syndrome, but was still suffering the effects of it. It's horrible.

If you can't handle the baby crying put the baby down and step away until you can collect your thoughts
