DD is rejecting purees or jars, and only wants to self feed!

What do I do, DD thankfully has always been a good eater and never gave me a problem. Since we've introduced her to finger foods that is all she wants to eat! Tonight dinner time was a nightmare she was screaming whenever I tried to give her a puree and just wanted to pick food up with her hand so we ended up shredding up some chicken for her to have, but it didn't seem like enough. Also, what else can I give her for dinner that is a finger food???

Let her eat with her fingers then!! chicken is good, soft vegetables, potatoes, small pieces of fruit....
Be thankful!!! You've got a good independent eater!

At that stage I just started cutting everything we ate into tiny pieces. If she did not want that, I gave her avacado, cheese, egg, cherrios or puffs. Once she had her full of "feeding herself" I could usually get a few spoons of something in her. If not I would give her her own spoon and when she would open her mouth to put her spoon in I put mine in instead.

I feel like she's getting so much less food though, it may just be my imagination though...

ill try the soft veggies and potatoes thats a good idea.....

Lexi, prefers to self feed also ...She hasn't "rejected" the baby food yet, but I can see it coming

ds will mostly reject the purees... he is a very good self feeder though and actually eats more then me sometimes... i do try and feed him the food i cut up for him alittle to make sure he is eating...

it also could be a phase. DS was like that for a bit but the past few days he's been gobbling up his jars!

let her self feed - it's easier because that's when you can eat at the same time as they do

My DD stopped eating jarred food and purees around 9 months. She just refused and hated the texture. From that point on she ate what we ate, with a few exceptions. She is an awesome eater now.

Just cut it up really small and consider yourself lucky!

Concider yourself lucky! DS would not let go of the purees.

My DD always perfered self-feeding we just cut everything into tiny pieces.

mila hasnt EVER entertained jar food cause shes so spoiled with what i make her, but shes getting antsy with purees too, i just give finger foods and pieces of things..
it does seem like less food, but ya know what jen, the puree isnt as much as we think, ya know??

I also say switch her to table food. Make sure you do a protein, carn and veg or fruit. She will be fine. If she still seems hungry try a jar after and see if she'll take it. I made a puree of garbanzo beans, peas, a little garlic and white pepper and put it over elbow noodles for them. They LOVED it! You could try that-treat it like a "sauce"

i'm going through the same thing with my almost 14 month old. he was a great eater--ate everything i gave him!

now he will only feed himself and wants to use his own spoon. i've given up on giving him jarred food/applesauce/etc and just go with it. and you're completely right--he is getting much less food. so i try to make sure the food he DOES eat is pretty healthy and is a little from each food group. my son will eat anything with sauce--pizza, macs, etc without hesitation.

just start cutting things small and she will do okay! once they start there's no stopping them
