Only wants to feed herself?
DD is almost 9 mths and she is going through this stage where she doesn't want me or my DH feeding her. She will only eat things she can put in her mouth.
Is this a normal stage? I was trying to show her how to eat with a spoon and she wants no part of it. She only wants to use her fingers.

Re: Only wants to feed herself?
Completly normal-
By 10 months DS only ate real food that he could feed himself...
To this day- I can not feed him anything off a spoon/fork etc...

Re: Only wants to feed herself?
My son (10 months) has been this way since about 8 months. It was very frustrating b/c up until about 2 weeks ago he'd gag himself on everything and it would all come back up. He's finally able to do it himself.

unfortunately yes, I give Roman turkey burger pieces with ketchup, spaghetti with sauce. He's not too good at eating with a fork or spoon so mealtime can get extremely messy since he doesn't like me feeding him with utensils.

Re: Only wants to feed herself?
My son is almost a year and has been feeding himself like that for a few months now. Even if I try to use a spoon with yogurt or something else messy, he grabs the spoon and makes a huge mess. But it's the only way they learn (unfortunately for those of us who have to endlessly clean up the nasty mess)

Yep- and DS loves to throw food as well so its very fustrating at times (more so now- because he is older and knows what he is doing is wrong!) Once he started eating only table food- he always ate what we were eating pretty much- messy foods as well...
I try and use easy pickup pastas like ditalini, rigatoni's, penne, or shells when making sauce or mac-n-cheese to make it a little easier on DC...
DS mastered the utensil thing just recently at about 18 months... but sometimes he'd rather use his hands
