Days off from work
Just curious how much time off of work you'll have taken off for infertility treatments or tests?

Re: Days off from work
It depends on where you go and what at which stage of everything you are. At LIIVF, they do the monitoring (sonos/blood) for IUIs and IVF in the early morning. With Dr. Braverman, you have to make a regular appt during the day. I think his office starts at 8:30, but goes til late afternoon. For actual procedures, you need the days off, but if you're only doing 1 IUI, then that's just one day. For IVF, I take the day of ER and ET off. So 2 days for a whole IVF isn't too bad.

Why the entire day off for IUI?

i know for me, i dont take days off for IUI's.. i am dr. bravermans patient too. i schedule them at 4pm. luckily we can be there close to that time.
but seriously, i dont know how people do it. like even 4pm is early for appts. i know he doesnt do procedures passed that time. like my DH can't just take days off , not with his job. it can get very frustrating!

I haven't done any procedures with Braverman yet. All of my IUIs/IVF were with LIIVF. When I did my IUIs, it was in the Lake Success office (before the new Melville location) and they were scheduled after 8AM. So if my IUI was at 10, I took the whole day, b/c I start work so early that it wouldn't have been worth it for me to go in that late anyway.

It seems to me it is quite possible to need at least 5 days/year for all the testing/treatments?!?!

Re: Days off from work
I hardly have to take off any days.
For IUI, I never took a day off. My baseline sono, bloodwork, etc. was able to be done before or after work.
For IVF, my retrieval ended up being on a Sunady so that worked out well - then my transfer was on a Friday... so I went in that morning, worked through lunch, and took my "2 hour personal leave" and just left work 2 hours early. For all of the bloodwork and monitoring, I went before or after work.
For FETs, I typically don't take any time off either. These can be scheduled (mine are medicated) so I always have them on a Friday and do like above... just take my 2 hours personal leave (I get 2 hours each month) and then I don't miss any work time.
For random times where I've needed appointments during the day for whatever reasons, I just take 2-3 hours off instead of the whole day.

Re: Days off from work
Dr. Braverman's office works out well for me as far as appts are concerned for sono's etc. I get the 4:30 appt and it's no problem, I leave work at 4, which is my regular time anyway.
It looks like my retrieval (if all goes well) will be on a weekend anyway, so I will just need a day or so off for the transfer (if all goes well).

Re: Days off from work
I have been very fortunate and have not really had to take too many days off. I have never needed to take any days off for monitoring or IUIs. I took a day off for my retrieval and my transfer is either tomorrow or Saturday. I likely am taking tomorrow off.

Re: Days off from work
I'm OOS, but went through an IVF cycle only taking a few days off, 1 for ER, and then 2 for transfer as my dr prescribes bed rest after (I know a lot of doctor's dont, mine did and I listened).
ETA: All my bloodwork, monitoring etc, was done prior to 8am and I work less than 10 minutes from the office.

Re: Days off from work
When I had my IVF cycle, I ended up needing to take a few hours in the morning (I start work at 6:30 so I would get there by 8 or 9) and after the transfer I was out for over a week with OHSS. I work 13 hour shifts on my feet so the RE didn't want me to risk ovarian torsion. My boss knew about it and was VERY understading.

Re: Days off from work
Thankfully I work from home, so when it comes down to it, I'll be able to take off when needed. But, I still would schedule my appointents early in the morning, or after 4:00 if possible as well.

Re: Days off from work
I would only take days off when I was doing IVF. Retrieval and transfer days. Otherwise I just go to the doctor on my lunch hour or whatever.

Re: Days off from work
When I was doing IUI's i prayed hard for weekend ovulation. There were a few cycles when I had to take a day off for a mid-day appointment but sometimes I was lucky enough to get an afternoon appointment. I was very fortunate to have an understanding supervisor.

Re: Days off from work
Except for days off around m/c issues, I tried to schedule early am appts and arrive a little late or work from home on appt days.

Re: Days off from work
I've always had morning monitoring starting at 7:00 or 7:30 so never had to take any time off for that. I think I actually took time off for IUIs since they were scheduled in the morning, and took a few days for ER & ET, but never had much of a problem with days off at all.
