Daycare bottle propping

I never propped bottles bc I heard they can choke to death. I would be very very mad at the daycare. It's one thing if a mom on here never heard of the danger but it's the daycare's business to know. Not to mention the regulation!

Re: Daycare bottle propping

i realize i didn't make this clear i seriously had no idea that this was a no no and against state regulations so that's why i said i didn't/wouldn't have let it bother me and think a second thought about it.

Now that i know i cant believe daycares do this and its not just hers i have seen it done at mine.

also against regulations or not if the OP is not comfortable with what they did you have every right to say what you did. there are time when i told them i don't want my DC to do/have something and i expect them to listen to me. I pay them enough money they can do what i ask (as long as i am being reasonable of course)

what happens if a baby doesn't want anymore bottle when it is propped? I have never done it so I am clueless - but I feel like it would be hard for them to stop eating if they wanted too? the little ones at least.

This is one major reason why it's bad--babies have choked to death because they can't stop the flow.

Yes, I didn't want to be the one to say it but babies have died this way. They can choke, it's really not a good idea to do this.

when i propped DS bottle it would never stay to begin with i did it when he was older. i can see this being a bigger problem for younger babies and more of a problem if you walk away. i

i had no idea it was so bad but i get why people do it why i did it. its a personal choice just like cereal in a bottle while i will never ever do it people are comfortable enough to do it for their kids.
everyone can choose what they want for their child.

Re: Daycare bottle propping

I propped one twins bottle and held the other when I was alone with them. But I was right there. I'd be pissed if the daycare just left my baby plopped on a boppy with a bottle unattended.

Re: Daycare bottle propping

In college I worked at a well known corporate daycare center in the infant room as the teacher's assistant. I loved the job so much because I LOVED being around little babies. The lead teacher in this room however couldn't be bothered with them. She propped bottles all the time even when she wasn't busy. I would unprop them and hold them to feed them. She would always tell me we didn't have to do that, which I always ignored. I felt that if I was just sitting there with nothing else to do why wouldn't I want to hold an infant and feed them. I felt if it were my baby I'd want someone doing it for me. I was young and didn't want to cause problems, but being a mom now and looking back I totally should have said something to the center's director about this woman's behavior. Everyone thought she was a saint who knew everything about raising babies, but working side by side with her I NEVER would put my child in her care.

Didn't think I would cause so much controversy! I personally wouldn't prop a bottle for my son at home. But if that worked or works for you that's cool. I reallly never judge what might work for one mom.
