Daycare and Diarrhea
So what is your daycare's policy? Is my daycare crazy???
SO DS had 2 bowel movements yesterday and they said they were all diarrhea and now has a sore bum
Policy is 2-3 times of diarrhea in a day and he has to stay home for at least 24hrs.
So his teacher told me when I picked him up - one more and he would have to stay home today. Well he didn't have one last night nor this AM so he's there. I would imagine if there is a problem - they will call me and I left a note saying the same.
Are they on the extreme side of a policy?? what are your daycare's doing?
Thanks

Re: Daycare and Diarrhea
My daycare said more than 2 loose BM's and they call you to take them home. So 3 is their magic number.
One time DD was on antibiotics and it was causing diarrhea- I told them that- todl them it wasn't a virus, it was the meds. They were ok with that.

Daycare and Diarrhea
ok - so maybe 3 is a std thing... he's teething so hes bound to have some loose stools here and there... I will have to ask and see if they handle it also on a case by case basis... I cant see myself having to take of work every time he has loose stool - if he's not showing any other symptoms.. fever, lethargy, poor appetite/runny/stuffed nose - things like that

There is a difference IMO between a loose stool and diarrhea. But my Daycare just has a diarrhea policy and no magic number.

Daycare and Diarrhea
Mine has a policy of no more than 2. Once they exceed 2 in 24 hours they have to stay home for 24 hours. I've only had to keep DD home once because of it. They're pretty good with differentiating between loose stools due to something like teething and actual diarrhea.

Same here. Last time DS was on antibiotics I had to get a note for the ped explaining the diarrhea was a side-effect.

Daycare and Diarrhea
Ok this is all good info. I used loose stool and diarrhea interchangeably. But I agree there has to be a differentiation between them.
I will ask for some questions today when I pick him up. I think his teacher is able and capable to tell the difference. Lets see what more info I can get from them later today... Thanks guys - I was just curious if the policy itself sounded a bit stringent.. lets see - Tx!

Re: Daycare and Diarrhea
we are in this hell now...
DD has had a really rough time with formula since birth. Diarrhea on and off for month (she is happy, no rashes just MESSY poop)...
we are going through a rough patch now and I've already gotten a warning about having to take her out. She isn't sick, just has an irritable belly
Next time there is an issue, we have to get a peds note to clear her and she can stay...
But yes, to answer the OP - 2-3 loose BMs and they need to be picked up.

Re: Daycare and Diarrhea
my ped office is so annoyed at how many notes they have to write for everyone, daycares are getting poop crazy
diareha and loose poop are two different things. My ds has loose poop, no medical explaination, just does. He has been tested for allergies and even stopped giving milk to see if that changed it and it doesn't... lucky him and lucky us
my point is they need to know each kid and how they poop, that will indicate whether or not its grounds to send them home. If the kid is fine all night at home with no poops im sure as heck sending him in the next day otherwise id have to be a SAHM and I don't really want to be
