Good Morning...I was looking for recommendations for day care that won't cause me to go bankrupt.
This is my first child and unfortunately I do not have the luxury of family help like so many of my friends seem to have. I went to five of them last week and fell in love with Kiddie Academy in Farmingdale. I also really liked Sweet Tots in Bethpage. Although neither one are on the top end of the price scale, after all is said and done though, it would be like we are paying a second mortgage on an apartment or something.
Do all day cares run around $330 a week for infants??

That's the cost of daycare. You might be able to find an in home babysitter for less, but it would NOT be the same. I, personally, pay $371 weekly for daycare for my almost 5 month old, but I know the farther east you go the less expensive. We use tutor time, Massapequa, but the one in Melville on 110 is fantastic, that's where he started, and it's much less$$$. I only moved him to massapequa when the opening came up because the school is 7 blocks away from me.

If you're looking to put an infant in a NYS licensed daycare facility (NOT one run out of someone's home), around $330 a week for full-time Monday thru Friday infant care is the going rate. The price usually decreases as the kid gets older, and there is a pretty significant decrease when the kid is potty-trained at most places. I am due at the end of April, and have already put a deposit down for Kiddie Academy in Farmingdale to reserve my spot since the infant rooms have the smallest ratio of 4:1 -- I, too, fell in love with the facility and the people who worked there! DD will be starting there in September. When I went to tour the place, there was only one infant room, which means they only had accepted 8 infants. When asked what would happen if a 9th wanted to enroll, they said they would only open up another room if they had at least 3 more infants. Not wanting to tour a ton of facilities after having already seen one I liked, I jumped at the fact that I would have a guaranteed spot. Which other facilities did you go to? We looked at Kiddie Academy, Primetime Learning, Calling All Kids Again, and Tutor Time.

I would say $330 for infants is actually on the less expensive side. I know others that are over $1400 a month for infants.

We looked at Kiddie Academy in Farmingdale and Bethpage, Tutor Time in Melville, Primetime in Farmingdale and Sweet Tots in Bethpage. Kiddie Academy Farmingdale was the first one we saw that day and none of the others could come close. I am not due till October so I don't expect a start date till November or December but I plan on putting down my deposit within the next month or so.
I guess I was just looking for feedback to see what other people were paying or finding in their search! Thanks!

And it is AMAZING
They are also flexible on days. We used to send her 2 days some weeks, 3 days other weeks, etc.
We would switch which days she went all the time and how many days a week.
Never had an issue doing this there.
They are super flexible.
It's probably too far east for you though.

My DS goes to KA in Farmingdale and has been there since the day they opened. In the area yes it is all about the same price. I think the Center at SUNY Farmingdale is a bit cheaper but I wasn't as impressed.
There are woman that watch kids in their home in town but they are not licensed. You can ask around on the moms page.

Yep -- Tutor Time Melville considers early drop off anything from 6:30AM-8AM, which is what I need. I'm a teacher and my school starts at 8:05 and I've got about a 30 minute commute, so that added to the price. Given people's grueling work schedules, I disliked that dropping off earlier than 8AM was more $$$$. Even if you work a job that requires you to be there at 9AM, you often need to drop off sooner than 8 when you factor in commute, weather, traffic, etc. What I love about Kiddie Academy is that you pick/set your own 10 hour block -- I'm doing 6:45AM-4:45PM.

Wow. Yeah that is BS to me.
I have never heard of that , I guess because my TT is 12 hours, same price regardless of what time you drop off.
I would NOT like those rules.
I pay them more than enough as it is.

$330 sounds average for a center. I use an in home NYS licensed daycare and when DD was going FT, paid $250 a week. Now I pay $200 for 4 days. There's no way we could have paid over $300 a week especially now that #2 is coming.

We go to KA of Bethpage. I would switch to Farmingdale in a heartbeat if it was not so out of the way for us and if I was not about to have another DS. They do charge more than Bethpage, but they offer more and are managed much more professionally. Bethpage needs to learn a litte from them, we have almost left a couple of times but the teachers really love the kids and my DS is pretty happy there and we get free vacation/sick weeks so we stay.

I just went through this and had to make a decision quick as it seemed a lot of places were filling up quick for the fall (when I go back to work). I also feel it depends on the area. I am in SE Nassau. Centers on average were $350 week I found...some more some less... I think the lowest for a center that I found was $315. I ended up going with an in home daycare which was not necessarily less expensive, she was just more flexible with giving us "free weeks" during school breaks which will help us out a lot. Believe me I'm not looking forward to this cost!

I agree with you about KA in Bethpage. I was so excited to check the place out especially with the free vaca/sick weeks (at least it helps to make up the fact that you are paying so much on normal weeks) but we were so disappointed and a little annoyed with the individuals running the place. They didn't really seem to care and we knew from the initial greeting that it was a no.

Another Kiddie Academy if Farmingdale family here  We have loved it, DS started as an infant at 10 weeks and is now 16 months. Because we're expecting baby #2 I was stressed about the cost of 2 babies in daycare but we are so happy with him there that we couldn't imagine switching or making other arrangements so we are figuring out the $$ so we can send both kids there.

I know. I am not looking forward to it either. At least KA Farmingdale gives 2 vaca weeks at 1/2 price. It's better than nothing. Good luck!
