Fred is fighting. They are not giving him dialysis today because his kidneys don't need it. The numbers looked ok yesterday and he can go a day without. His liver enzymes have come down so that is a positive sign. They are taking him off of two IV drugs for his heart and instead giving them in crushed pill form through his NG (feeding tube)..this is a step in the right direction. This is a tiny bit of hope it a bad situation. They have also reduced his ventilator so he breathes some breaths on his own along with the vent. His leg is still bad and the doctors are trying to save it. I'm very concerned about him losing a limb but I'm trying not to think about it too much. The nurse did say that people in the ICU can go steps forward one day and 10 steps backwards the next so I need to understand that. I get it. I'm just encouraged that he has made the tiniest little progress. Of course, I am hoping that his brain will be ok as well. I shudder to think about what happened to his brain when he lost oxygen. Fred is fighting. This is truly the hardest thing I have ever experienced in my life. I hope I never have to do it again.
many prayers! maybe you could start reading him a book like "The Secret" something positive that you two could share! in any case you are being a wonderful sister to him.

I was thinking of getting that book. maybe I'll order it on Amazon. I read him the newspaper and tell him jokes. He doesn't really respond but maybe soon he will as his body gets better.
