CIO...update...

Well, I thought each night is supposed to get better.
It was, then last night he cried for 2 and a half hours and I went in there and tries to console him, he smiled and giggled and reached for me.
My DH was getting mad because all he wanted to do was go back to sleep, now that he is back to work....uh HELLO, I also work too.

I dont know what else to do. I gave in and gave him a abottle and then he fell back to sleepChat Icon

Thats what is called Infant Power.
Was he crying upset or crying what I call Hollering??? Was he crying because he was angry at you? Whats your gut on that?

Its bloody hard this CIO thing, but I do believe that it works!!!

Re: CIO...update...

It was getting better each night is was less and less.
Last night, the first hour was a whimper...or more of a whine. Then the second hour full blown crying

Re: CIO...update...

I think there's a deffinite difference between night cries. Sometimes DS cries and I can tell he'll go back to sleep on his own. Other times I know for whatever reason, he is not going back to sleep without help or without crying for a couple of hours. Last night he cried at 4am for less than 8 minutes and when back to sleep. The night before he cried for 15 min. and I knew he wasn't going to let up, so I went into his room and cuddled him for 5 minutes until he fell back asleep. We haven't given him a night feeding in a couple of weeks and that's the one thing I try to avoid more than anything else at this point.

I've heard once it starts getting better, that they can get worse again. You just have to stay strong and stick with it.

I know its hard...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It sounds to me that he may actually still be hungry and not ready to sleep through the night so maybe you just have to give it another month or so of feeding him so that you and DH can get some sleep.

It gets better. I promise!! It really does. Even though they're twins your boys can be completely different and it sounds like your boys are on different ends of the sleep/eat plan. I'm sure it won't be much longer that he needs that extra feeding. Is there anyway DH will take turns with you getting up on opposite nights to do the feeding?

Sorry you are having such a hard time! Chat Icon Could his teeth be bothering him?? Although it doesn't sound like it if he was smiling and reaching for you. I would try to avoid feeding him ( I know, it's soo much easier said than done!) I would just be worried he'll get used to that middle of the night bottle. I really believe it's more habit at this age than a necessity to eat in the middle of the night. Good luck!!!!

I don't know much about your situation but if he takes a bottle then easily goes to sleep he sounds to me like he is hungry.

NOT that this matters but IMO two hours seems like a long time to CIO when he seems to easily go down after a bottle. I would try giving that "extra" bottle and see if it makes a difference on when he goes down. It sounds like you are not happy with how things are currently going so it wouldn't hurt to try something new. Good luck!Chat Icon
