Just curious what you all think--a few of my friends have been discussing this and we all have different opinions.

I honestly don't know what I think. If it makes any difference--you would never know by looking at it that anything happened there.

No way. The house Im in now the mom and dad divorced, the mom then died of cancer (in the house) and her son commited suicide (outside the house). Honestly, I wasnt sure I believed in ghosts before we moved in about 5 years ago. Im still not 100% sure if I do or not but I see things out of the corner of my eye ALL he time, especially in a specific area. I do have an uneasy feeling even though nothing terrible has happened. I wouldnt do it, but thats me :)

Not for free

I am a strong believer in ghosts, spirits and just knowing if someone died in the house is enough for me to pass - I couldn't imagine them being murdered.

It's a creepy thing but is many people with old homes can't track the full story of what has gone on there.

No way. I don't think I would even buy a house on the same block.

Keep in mind in New York, sellers and listing agents do NOT need to disclose that a homicide occurred at the property for sale. So it's buyer beware... if you don't want to buy a house where someone was murdered, try to do a lot of research before you buy!

absolutely not, I could never feel comfortable living in a home where someone's life was taken. If someone died in the home naturally then there could be a possibilty depending on the price, neighborhood, condition of home etc.

DH on the other hand would love to i'm sure as he is really into those paranormal investigation shows. He always says he wants to live in a haunted house Chat Icon

Re: could you buy a home where someone was murdered?

Yeah, I could. I bet someone died in just about every old house out there. I mean murder is a little different, but so long as there are no pools of blood in my living room, I'm cool. Chat Icon

ETA: I don't believe in ghosts or spirits or anything of the sort.

Re: could you buy a home where someone was murdered?

Absolutely not. I had trouble buying any house if someone had died in it. I'm glad we got the house we did because there was only one owner before us, and they were still alive.

I think it depends on the situation. I don't think I could if a violent crime had taken place there. If it was a case where someone had a terminal illness and came home to die, surrounded by his/her loved ones than I wouldnt have a problem w/it. So to answer your specific ques, no I couldnt live in a house where a murder was committed. I am a big believer in ghost, energy and the after life. Its not so much that I would be worried about evil spirits but I do believe that negative energy will stay in a place.

Re: could you buy a home where someone was murdered?

I do believe in ghosts and spirits and have had several experiences.
At this point I've just learned to accept it.

So could I live in a house where someoned died... yes. But, murder would make me think twice ONLY because imo, that's more then just dying. Plus, depending on the murder, I wouldn't want random people driving by my house to be nosy.

Our home has the same history, what a coincidence.

Re: could you buy a home where someone was murdered?

NO... Since I could remember my parents told me that they were ready to put an offer on the house and the real estate person said she had something to tell my parents. She said that a person was shot and killed on the front steps of the house. My parents thanked the r/e person for telling them and moved on to a different house.
Since then whenever I look I ask the real estate person if someone was murdered in the house. One house that my old r/e person was selling was a very famous case from years ago.

I don't know. But I moved into an apartment where a double suicide happened and I didn't really think twice about it. Though the entire place had to be gutted and repainted. I never did find out specifics. It was a hassle when I moved in because they never shut off their phone service so it took a while to transfer my number. (I was living in the super's apt, and the owner needed a super, so that apt was my only option in the building, and I really wanted to stay in the building.)

My mom's friend did. She has changed the house so much you would not be able to recognize it. I would live in that house in a heartbeat because it is just absolutely beautiful

I wouldn't want to live somewhere like the Amityville house because of what another poster mentioned about ppl always coming there.

Rumor has it, our house, the couple who used to live here went through a messy divorce when she found out he was a child molester.

Never...I would never have a peaceful feeling in the home, it would be on my mind a lot..knowing someone was murdered where i lived. Even if it was dirt cheap i couldn't do it...
