Confused by OPKs
I'm using the Clear Blue smileys. In past months I tested til the smiley and then stopped. This month I decided to keep testing to see how long the smiley would last.
I got the first one on Sat night, another Sun night, and today I got one at 8am and just now at 5pm. I know you're not supposed to keep testing, but if you have, is this normal? If I'm still getting smileys that means I haven't ovulated yet right?

Re: Confused by OPKs
i stop testing after i get my smiley. the smiley means the next two days are the most fertile and you should be ovulating.

Re: Confused by OPKs
I usually test once a day starting at cd8 and at the same time. Once I get the smiley, I stop testing. As the above poster said, it senses your surge in which you will O in the next 12-24 hours. It's less confusing if you just get the smiley and stop. Good luck this cycle!!

Sounds like you caught the very beginning of your surge and tested right through to the very end. You likely Oed on late Monday/early Tuesday. No reason to continue testing after your first smiley. Those tests are expensive!

OPKs are tricky. I got a smiley but didn't ovulate until 5 or 6 days later. I've learned to not completely rely on them and to use them as a cue to start BDing but not to stop BDing for at least a week after.

its fine to have a surge thats up to 3 or even 4 days long. anything longer than that id start to get concerned. i have PCOS and that's how I know when my LH spikes - I get +OPKs for literally a week straight. also if you get +OPKs, stop testing, then see EWCM or have other reasons to start testing again, and get +OPKs all over again, and this happens several cycles, then i would be concerned.

I think the companies should stop saying that you should ovulate 24-36 hours later because its misleading. Yeah, most people do but a lot of people take longer.

this is very true. also the level of LH fluctuates every cycle so you might get a + reading and then ovulate right away one month, and then the next month get 3 days of + before you ovulate. its inconsistent because the hormone levels of the body tend to be inconsistent. same reason why when you are TTC you suddenly get all sorts of "pregnancy symptoms" in a BFN cycle. the levels of progesterone which causes many of these symptoms can fluctuate greatly month to month.

Re: Confused by OPKs
Thanks girls. I probably should have just stopped testing!
I think I ovulated yesterday based on having what I think were o pains. In any case, we'll BD a few extra days just in case!

Re: Confused by OPKs
Good luck!!
I'm going through something kind of similar- getting a pos opk right after my period ends and then negatives with another pos a week later.
