Commuting costs

I realized that between gas and tolls it costs me about $20 a day to get to work. That's $5000 a year, not including car insurance and car repairs (which would make it more like $10K).

That is a HUGE portion of my salary.

How much does it cost for you to get to work?

Re: Commuting costs

Right now it costs me a tank of gas every other week but I used to work 45 miles from home each way. It was at least 15 dollars a day for gas if you consider the distance and figure in miles per gallon. I do not miss the commute one bit. I used to go from exit 62 to exit 33 every day.

I didn't have any tolls which definately helped. How long does the commute take?

When I'm coming home late at night and there's no traffic it's 45 minutes. Usually though it's about an hour fifteen. On a summer friday or when the Mets are playing it's 2 hours or more.

Re: Commuting costs

I drive a total (round trip) of 14 miles a day. I have to get gas in my car every other week or so, and it costs about $75 now/month for me to get gas.

my employer alots $110 per month travel expenses for each employee. if I were to move east or north, I'd get that allowance to help offset my commuting costs.

i pay $112 a month for parking and about $75 a month for gas.

I would also get vouchers and i could take the bus for free but i won't take public transportation - much rather drive regardless of cost

Re: Commuting costs

LIRR - 248 (monthly)
MTA - 81 (monthly)
Parking - 30 (annually)

I have a short drive to the train, not worth factoring in the tank of gas, since it would take about 2 weeks to use one. Plus if I wanted to save that gas money I could make my hubby drop me off. hah

So, Annually $3948 + 30 = $3978

Which is why I took the job in the City, since commuting to Rockville Centre was costing me $65 a week in Gas not including wear & tear on the truck itself. So $3250 annually driving through sleet, snow, wind, rain and traffic.

NYC commute: 1hr 30mins door to door each way
RVC commute: 45min to work, 1hr + (up to 2hrs) home.

I think I made a good choice.

Re: Commuting costs

I pay $340 to commute (that's for my LIRR & unlimited metrocard). Luckily I only fill up my tank with gas every two weeks. I live 4 miles from the train station.

Metro North/NJ Transit Train Ticket - $195/month

PATH - $52/month

Parking @ train station - $22/month

Grand total - $269/month

$115 of the train ticket and the entire amount of the parking is taken out of my check pre-tax so I save around $40/month.

Re: Commuting costs

Thankfully 4 miles each way. I would NEVER commute in LA- I would rather hang myselfChat Icon
I probably spend about $100 a month on gas and matinence and about $100 a month on insurance so $200 total.

Re: Commuting costs

I pay about $211 for my monthly LIRR and maybe about $60 for a Metrocard so around $270 a month for traveling.

Thankfully, I can walk to the train station.
