Thanks for all of the suggestions! We'll look into these areas. A feasible walk to the train is a dealbreaker for us...we have time and will be patient!

My sister lives in Oceanside which is right by RVC and she loves it and the school district (she has 2 young boys) Its a very nice town and not a long train ride.

You can also have that commute from NJ. DH does it every day...it's a bit longer at about 45 min though.

We live in Carle Place and my commute into NYC is about 35-40 min on the LIRR. I grew up in CP and after getting married, DH and I bought a house here. I absolute love the town/community and it is centrally located in Nassau so we can easily get to both Queens and Suffolk. HTH!

I agree about Carle Place - we just bought a house there as well. You can take the train from Mineola or Carle Place and your in Penn very quickly

That would be great, thanks! DH wants to stay lower (Tuckahoe) but I don't think White Plains is out of the question yet!

Tuckahoe is Yonkers schools, so I wouldn't suggest that unless you plan on private schooling your kids. If you want to stay lower Westchester with better schools, try looking in the Eastchester area. It's right next door to Tuckahoe.

We are debating that...lower taxes vs paying for private school...we love the Crestwood area and need to be able to walk to the train. But there are some towns in Nassau with a comparable commute, so we'll definitely be looking there.
