Cold Cuts
DH and I are having a debate on cold cuts and how long they last. He drives me nuts that I'll buy cold cuts and he ends up throwing them out after 5 days and telling me that the cold cuts are bad. I buy Boars Head from Stop and Shop and feel like I am wasting money. I put them in the cold cuts drawer and they are wrapped correctly to keep them fresh.
How long do you keep your cold cuts in your fridge before you throw them out? He's driving me insane with his "my mommy" logic and I think I might kill him soon! (partial pregnancy hormones partial because he's acting annoying)

Re: Cold Cuts
i generally keep them for about 5 days. You can tell when you open the package up if they start to get a little slimy or smell different, then they should be tossed. For me, i notice that around 5+days

Re: Cold Cuts
I would never throw away cold cuts after 5 days.
I would think they are suspect at 7/8. But I would smell them. If they are in the fridge at 7/8/ days, and they LOOK good, and SMELL good, they are fine. But not much more than that if at all.
But I would think about a 8/9 day as my "suspect" o-meter. NOT 5.

Cold Cuts
I have a 4 day rule. After that, they are garbage and I will NOT eat them. I only buy boars head also. Cheese is a different story.

Re: Cold Cuts
I don't eat them after about five days but its rare that they get to stick around that long with my DH around. Cheese can last up to a couple weeks in our deli drawer though.
I buy Boars Head too for coldcuts and cheese and Land o' Lakes cheese.

Re: Cold Cuts
it depends on the cold cut. I think meats (RB, turkey, chicken breast probably would go first, I would say by day 5 they need to be tossed. Things like american cheese, swiss cheese, and even bologna will last a bit longer, maybe toss on day 7.

Re: Cold Cuts
I think if they are packaged properly they should last a week. If I shop on Sunday, I throw out the old ones when I bring home the new. Of course, earlier if they smell or taste funny.

Turkey or chicken- 3 or 4 days at most. Ham would be like 5 days. Bologna, salami, cheese, will last about a week.

This. Turkey and chicken go bad way faster than ham and salami. I would stretch ham, bologna, and cheese to 7 days if they were never opened. I personally can't eat roast beef after 2 days--grosses me out.

Cold Cuts
I only buy a 1/2lb (to avoid having leftovers) and that gets me 4-5 sandwiches for DH for the work week. Anytime I have left over, I usually toss it after day 5.

Re: Cold Cuts
The cheese I will eat for up to a week... everything else, 4 days or so. I'm sure they technically last longer, but they skeeve me if they're sitting in the fridge too long.

Re: Cold Cuts
5 days after purchase would be the absolute latest I would eat cold cuts but I am more comfortable with 3-4 days for meats. Cheeses last longer, but usually by 4 days the thought of touching ham, turkey, etc skeeves me.
ETA - I only eat Boars Head too

Re: Cold Cuts
By day 4 I throw it out. We don't buy cold cuts often, maybe once a month. I only get a small amount bc I feel like they are done after 4 days

You cannot always smell food that has already formed harmful bacteria. Nor can you go by what they look like though, according to experts.

I would say 5-7 days. After 7 days, I throw them out - DH eats them past 7 days.

I saw this on Dr Oz once. They say 5 days is the limit and then bacteria starts growing. I never go past 5 days. Skeeves me out if its any longer.

I'm a little weird when it comes to cold cuts. I wont eat turkey or chicken if its more than 3 days old. Ham, salami, etc I'll go a little longer, maybe 5 most. Cheese lasts much longer.

This is pretty much how I am. Cheese i don't really have a time limit for - i feel like it lasts a long time, and you'd probably see mold if it were bad.
