Clomid and stupid egg release question?
When you take Clomid, if you have only 1 functioning ovary, will you still release more than 1 egg? I know it's a stupid question, I just didn't know if you released more than one egg if it came from both ovaries or the same one? Thanks!

Re: Clomid and stupid egg release question?
i have 2 functioning ovaries and from 5omg to 150 mg i always released 1 egg and always from my right side. the dr said my right ovary is more dominant
i always started off with about 15-20 follicles but one lead one would take over. i assume its the same with one ovary. peerhaps u would have 10 follies to start off and u may get 1 or 2 mature follies

Re: Clomid and stupid egg release question?
That is a good question. Basically clomid will hopefully make it that your one ovary produces more than one egg. So, in theory, when you ovulate, you will release more than one egg if they are mature. You can also be given a trigger shot that would ensure they mature and release. Some do it for clomid and others don't. I ovulated on my own, so when I was on clomid I never got a trigger shot. But, I know that with my failed cycles, the next month when I went in for baseline all my follicles were gone. So, that means I released them naturally.
Good luck.

Re: Clomid and stupid egg release question?
I was just curious. If we have no luck in the next 1-3 months I'll be trying Clomid. I do ovulate on my own and have regular cycles. (Knock on wood) I think I would be taking it to help better my chances with releasing more than one egg. I guess that's what it's for, no?

Re: Clomid and stupid egg release question?
Yup, you could release more than one egg from the working ovary. I used Femara, but it is pretty much the same thing. I released two from my left ovary one cycle, then one from my right on the following cycle (at least that is what we saw on the u/s, but I am pg with twins, so who knows!). I triggered with an ovidrel shot, which helped us use timed intercourse and know exactly when to BD. Pretty neat stuff!

Great!
Can you tell me what Femara is? What's the difference between the two? Thanks everyone!

Femara is actually a breat cancer drug, but a lot of fertility clinics are using it now. It serves the same purpose at Clomis, but it is supposed to have less side effects and a lower chance of multiples. You usually produce only one or two follicles per Femara cycle.
For me, it didn't have any side effects (I had some hot flashes with Clomid, but nothing else). I am pg with twins, but I guess it lowered the chance of anything more than that.
The issue with it is that insurance doesn't cover it because it is technically a breast cancer drug. It didn't cost me much, though....can't remember the exact cost, but it was probably around $45.
Anyway, if you get to that point, talk with your RE. Every doc has a preference for which one they use.
Good luck!

Re: Clomid and stupid egg release question?
With Clomid, you can have more than 1 follie develop & your trigger will release all (goal is 2-3).
Same with injections, ect.

What if you don't do any injectables to make them release? I probably won't be because that would be under Infertility and I'm not covered by that until August. Will I still release them? Thanks!

I'm not sure about that... probably because the Ovidrel trigger just mimicks your natural cycle peaks... but I always did it with Ovidrel /IUI when I used Clomid to maximize chances. I think Ovidrel costs $80 OOP.

you should still release them on ur own but u dont know when. an OPK or ovulation monitor can help u there.
i took the ovidrel shot bc it was a timed iui - with the ovidrel the dr has complete control of when u ovulate - ovidrel matures the follicles and releases the egg within 24-36 hrs (i think its 24-36 hrs it may be 24-48 hrs - i forgot)
