Stupid Questin re: Clomid

My RE wants to put me on Clomid this cycle. After all the tests, everything looks fine, so there is no pinpointed problem with me.

I am not quite ready to move in that direction (clomid) but he says it will help rule out other problems.

Can I go on it and NOT try to conceive? Again, I am not ready to go this route to conceive, but if he wants me to take it "just to see" then that is fine.

Is this just really stupid?

I don't understand. Are you ovulating? Why wouldn't you want to try to get pregnant on clomid?
If you don't want to take it then tell him you don't want to take it. You should never do something you are not comfortable with.
What are you ready to do?

Re: Stupid Questin re: Clomid

It seems to me that I am ovulating (according to OPK's, temps, etc.) and the RE won't say either way.

I have nothing against Clomid and will probably wind up on it myself someday, I just am not ready yet...

I would like to know FIRST what exactly my problem is. If the tests are all coming back normal, than I would like to give it some more time (although, I am feeling pressured by age...)

But, if he thinks it will help figure out what is wrong with me - if there is a problem or not - then can I just take it but skip this month in trying to conceive?

Well, I don't see why you couldn't take it and just abstain at O time or use condoms. But I'm not sure what Clomid is going to diagnose - I could see prescribing it to help you get pregnant but not to figure out why you are having a problem. Don't let the doctor pressure you into doing anything you don't want to - they work for you!

It is my understanding, according to my R.E., that you are limited to the number of cycles that you can be on Clomid. I believe he said they would not want to administer any more than 12 cycles of Clomid over my lifetime........not just with trying to get pregnant this go around. There are side effects, such as a thinning of your uterine lining, with prolonged use which is why they limit you to a lifetime maximum of 12 cycles with this medication.

If you are not actively trying to get pregnant right now I don't see why you would take the Clomid. You're better off letting your body do it's own thing and if you're finding through OPK's that you are not ovulating at least you know when you are ready to actually get pregnant that Clomid may help you. Again, if there is a limitation to the Clomid use I would not waste cycles on months where you are not actively trying to conceive.

Hope this helps. Chat Icon

As far as I know, I have not had low progesterone.

I know he did mention bloodwork with the Clomid, but it wasn't clear to me and I asked him on two different occasions and I am still a bit unclear
