The egg stays alive in fertile EWCM for 12-24 hours.
If you BD before it is released, you will have swimmers t here waiting for her.

How long can the swimmers wait? i.e. BD on Tuesday night, ovulation on Wednesday?

There is no "one" answer for this....there are many variables such as the sperm quality, EWCM quality, etc.
In the best circumstances, a couple of days. WHich is why if you are TTC, you should do it frequently during O time.
If you BD on Tuesday and O on Wednesday, that is great. Just keep doing what you are doing.
