If I saw a picture of myself looking like this, my response would be the same - oof.
Why do people feel the need to defend someone they don't even know? It's a message forum. It's Celebrities & Entertainment. We aren't discussing world peace here. It's a horrific picture.
Horrific? Really? It's a bad angle & caught off guard no doubt but does she really look that bad? I mean if you saw her walking down the street & she was stranger, you'd think "eww" based on this look?

People have every right to share their opinion. I am certainly not offended by it. However, ripping someone's looks apart will always rub me the wrong way. I don't mean commenting on fashion choices, hair, makeup , plastic surgery etc. I am referring to attacking someones basic looks. Especially, someone who isn't a model/ actress and known for their appearance. I feel that there is a mean spiritedness to it and It strikes me as a very negative thing to do. Particularly, because it is females attacking other females. Btw, I am not singling anyone out on LIF. I am more talking about the general culture of meanness on the Internet.
Agreed.

I'll stick to what I said. It's a horrific picture.
If I saw her walking down the street, i wouldn't even notice her. I don't walk around judging people. This pic was posted and my reaction was "ooff"
Again I ask , why is everyone so nuts over the ppl who say she looks bad? Maybe it's a matter of taste - but I do not think she's pretty at all and this pic is real bad.
ETA: there are ugly people in the world. It's ok to say it.

I have to agree. It IS horrific. And if I saw her on the street I'd think the same. Sorry, just my opinion. Not everyone is pretty. And that's ok. And not everyone has the same taste. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What is gained from saying that she is ugly? I just don't understand why one would feel the need to comment so harshly on someone's looks. It just plays into our society's belief that looks are important - I wish we could get away from that.
Posting emoticons like in relation to a smart, accomplished woman is so childish and unnecessary. There are far more important things in this world than being attractive. I think that the comments towards her reveal an ugly character - which IMO is far worse than being "ugly" on the outside.
I am glad I don't have a daughter. Women are so horrible towards each other.

Nothing is gained but it's an entertainment board where pictures are posted for the sole purpose of commentary and discussion. It seems to be okay to rip on someone's outfit, bad nose job, ugly hair, bad skin, or anything else but when someone comments on a perons looks some people on here are up in arms. It's ridiculous. I don't see a problem with anyone commenting that they don't find someone attractive whether it's because it's a bad picture or not.
I'm 100% comfident that not one person on LIF would IRL ever call someone ugly to their face (even if they think it) because it would be hurtful and cruel and feelings would be hurt.
However, nobody is being hurt by random people on an entertainment board commenting on a picture of a person that isn't relevant in any of our lives. I think many of you are making so much more of this then it needs to be. It's just a comment on a newsgroup about someone we don't know IRL, that one comment does not speak to anyone's character as a person OR how they treat people in the real world.
I can assure you that I would never call anyone I know or meet ugly. Nor would I treat anyone differently because of their looks. What someone looks like doesn't have anything to do with the type of person they are BUT that doesn't change the fact that there are people who I don't find attractive physically regardless of how smart, successful, wonderful, sweet, or accomplished they are. I'm human. But I have the common sense and social grace to keep those thoughts to myself. That's real life, this board is NOT real life. It's for entertainment.

Unbelievable. This Was NOT a post asking a question on her accomplishments or IQ. It was a ****** picture and she looks bad. TO ME, MY OPINION, she is not a pretty person, physically. YES, There are Ugly people in the world. Physically ugly and emotionally ugly. Again, I do not go around pointing and staring at people who's looks are a bit more unfortunate. Looks do not define the person you are. I am no raving beauty and I'm quite fine with that. It doesn't make me who I am.
Why is it ok to say someone is physically pretty, without mention of their accomplishments but not ok to say they are ugly or look bad? and WTF is everyone getting so defensive? I truly think people are taking this FUN board WAYYYYYY to serious. Get over it

What is gained from saying that someone is pretty? Or saying that they have great hair? Or that you love that dress they are wearing? Or that you can't stand those shoes?
Truth is, nothing is gained on this board. Because it's a mindless entertainment board used for fun and diversion.
So if a picture of an "ugly" person is posted it should get 200 views and no comments right? Like hearing crickets. Then we will know they must be ugly because nobody posted anything.

Yet you're on here posting about others? I don't follow your comments, so maybe you only say positive things (no snark) but I always thought the purpose of this board was evaluating/analyzing/judging celebs.

Chelsea is the child of someone famous. She has done nothing to make herself famous or promote herself. To me that is a huge difference.
Everyone can take an unflattering picture.

Re: Chelsea Clinton
This has got to be one of the most ridiculous threads ever. Why are people getting so defensive? This is a CELEBRITY board. If Chelsea herself posted this picture and people said "you're ugly," then that's mean. But that's not the case. She hasn't faded into obscurity after Bill left office. She is actively involved with politics with her mom and she was a correspondent on NBC Nightly news.
If you ever said a celeb looked pretty, you are just as guilty of judging based on looks. So get off your high horses people.
