This is why I hate the celeb board.

I totally get making fun of bad plastic surgery, a horrible dye job, an ill-fitting outfit, or really terrible acting.

But to attack someone's looks? The way they were born? What exactly is the point of that cruelty?

I know she is never going to come on here and say "Oh no a bunch of LIFers are making fun of me" and go into a deep depression... but for those of you making fun of her looks, WHY? Does it make you feel better about yourself? To put someone's looks down like that? Are you all so gorgeous you can afford to cast those stones?

. Chat Icon Chat Icon amen ! Would you think she was ugly if she were your friend ? Your family member ?

I'm sure we ALL have friends, family, co-workers, and other people we know IRL that we do NOT find attractive.

Looks are NOT everything but finding someone attractive or not is human nature. Attraction is real, that's science. Please don't pretend like you think every single person you know or meet is attractive, beautiful, gorgeous, etc. That is so ridiculous and so NOT true.

The difference is IRL we have the common sense, manners, and social etiquette to keep our opinions to ourselves...........as you should. But on a newsgroup with pictures of people that are literally NOTHING to anyone IRL you can state your true opinion on their looks, outfit, haircut, etc. because there is no consequence of doing so.

This is NOT real life, lighten up. What exactly do you think the point of this board is? To always be sweet and nice and compliment every picture of every person posted????? C'mon.

I think some of you need to stop confusing a random comment someone makes about a person none of us know with the type of people we are IRL. One has NOTHING to do with the other. It's so unnecessary to constantly correct anyone on here by telling them they are "too harsh" or "so mean" because ultimately, IT IS A PICTURE they are commenting on, not a real person we all know. There is a HUGE difference.

Rant over. Chat Icon Chat Icon

People have every right to share their opinion. I am certainly not offended by it. However, ripping someone's looks apart will always rub me the wrong way. I don't mean commenting on fashion choices, hair, makeup , plastic surgery etc. I am referring to attacking someones basic looks. Especially, someone who isn't a model/ actress and known for their appearance. I feel that there is a mean spiritedness to it and It strikes me as a very negative thing to do. Particularly, because it is females attacking other females. Btw, I am not singling anyone out on LIF. I am more talking about the general culture of meanness on the Internet.

Re: Chelsea Clinton

I think Chelsea is generally better looking that she is in the photo. I think this is a really bad picture and she's outside in the summer while pregnant. Not the perfect combo for a photo op, IMO.

This all reminds me of the infamous Jessica Simpson "mom jeans" picture. Even at the time, she was better looking than she was in that terrible photo and she was ripped to shreds.

Making fun of or judging only certain people because they are models or naturally pretty, doesn't make a person any better.

That's just a terrible picture of her!

I do think it is mean to make fun of what some one was born with, but also she's is pregnant! People here are usually nicer to the mommas to be. Some people's faces do change when they are pregnant.

I felt really bad for her as a kid being in the public eye during her awkward phase, but I remember seeing her as an adult for the first time ( I think it was at a 9/11 memorial) and was pleasantly surprised at at how she grew into her looks.

I'm not a fan or hers (and you don't even want to know what I think of her parents) but I think it is cruel that she's been criticized for a looks since she was a kid. She is beautiful and she has grown up well even under the heavy scrutiny.

I also totally see where some posters always chime in with comments only when it's time to say how ugly they think someone is

Re: Chelsea Clinton

See, I take this personally Chat Icon , because when i was in high school, I was frequently told by strangers that I looked just like Chelsea Clinton, but that was usually followed with, "but prettier." It was really the curly hair at the time that did it, and similar coloring.

The poor girl went through her awkward stage in front of the whole world. She grew up to be an attractive, intelligent, and poised young woman. This picture was taken at a terrible angle, and even with that, she looks like an average person, not some ugly troll. I don't know who all of you know in real life, but most of my friends and family do not look like models or movie stars.

Nice picture but there is no doubt they did a TON of photoshop on it.
I could look like a model too if they photoshopped the heck out of my pics.

I think this is a great statement on what value people actually place on looks. Some people hit the genetic lottery, some, dont. However this woman and her Mother are extremely smart and capable and that means a lot more than a pretty face. I hope none of you have an ugly daughter. What would you tell her????

Totally agree.
I don't think she looks bad at all for walking around on a hot summer day.

I also think that she's a hell of lot more put together than me when I was pregnant.

I have a higher expectation of celebrities but even then I don't think an actress has to be gorgeous to be a fantastic actress.

This is just one example of what is wrong with our society. Such a premium is placed on looks - if commenting on a picture is so harmless and meaningless - then post a picture of yourselves and see how you feel.

Its fine if you don't think every single person on the planet is attractive - but taking the time to stop and comment on how ugly someone is just reveals something ugly about our society. Why bother commenting? Why continue to feed into a world that sees little girls struggling with their self image from scarily young ages.

I think it's cruel because she's a regular person living her life. IMO it's like taking a picture of someone off the street and saying how ugly they are. At least a regular celeb signs up to be public, puts themselves out there. And is marketed as "attractive" when they don't have 2 brain cells to rub together. This is an intelligent woman, currently pregnant, who is only being posted here because her parents are politicians. If you want to continue your fun bashing how normal people look, I doubt I'm gonna be the one that stops you, so carry on.

This exactly.

I think this is just a bad pic! If you do a google search for her and look at press photos from events she attends (not photoshopped magazine photos), she turned out pretty cute IMO! I am a pastey pale girl too (with light eyebrows) and if I go out in bright sun without a bunch of eyebrow liner/eye makeup, I tend to get all washed out too. Luckily for me, my dad/mom were never politicians......

Same here. I would never post anything negative on any celeb's twitter or IG or anywhere there is a reasonable expectation they will see it...but they will never see it on here so I'm free to say exactly what I think in my mind....if somehow they ever came here, which we know they won't, and they want to know what strangers are saying, that's on them.

If I saw a picture of myself looking like this, my response would be the same - oof.

Why do people feel the need to defend someone they don't even know? It's a message forum. It's Celebrities & Entertainment. We aren't discussing world peace here. It's a horrific picture.

It's different IMO - Chelsea Clinton didn't ASK to be a commonly known face. She's the daughter of political parents. She goes to events, she gets photographed, those pictures end up online or in magazines etc. SHE is not choosing to make her living based on her looks.
So, while I agree that she's not particularly attractive, I don't think she's 'fair game' to look at superficially.

Kim Kardashian's entire fortune rests on her ass, or her fully made up face, and the fact that people either love her, or love to hate her, based on what? On the WAY SHE LOOKS. That is her ONLY crowning achievement - what color is her hair? What is she wearing, what is she NOT wearing? Who is she currently sleeping with? etc. (and I've said before her mother is an immoral business geniuis for capitalizing on society's embarassing willingness to make a w h o r e a 'celebrity' and someone to aspire to)
So, Kim K, Paris Hilton .........Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Mariah, Jessica Alba - whomever these women are that have made careers out of being 'beautiful' ......well, that's your job. To be the 'beautiful people' - You get paid for it, you cash the checks, you put your face out there ..........so, you're fair game for everyone's opinion.

I dobut anyone would see Chelsea Clinton on the street and waltz up to her and say "You know, you're not really very good looking" .........
