Changing cell providers, but keeping your number
How does this work exactly? Do you cancel first? Or set up the new service than cancel the old?

They do it all for you. When DH and I switched from Sprint to Verizon, it was taken care of by them at no extra charge.

Re: Changing cell providers, but keeping your number
DO NOT CANCEL FIRST!!!! You will lose your number that way.
Go to the company that you want to switch to.
Bring the account number for your current provider because they will need it.
If you are still under contract with your current provider, you will be charged a cancellation fee and the new carrier will not pay that for you unless there is a promotion going on where they will.
When you set up your new account with the new provider, they will initiate the number port and everything will happen automatically.
If you are transferring all of the numbers from your current account, that account will automatically close with that provider.
There is no charge to port your number from one carrier to another.
Some companies offer extra discounts or service credits for each line you bring over from another carrier.
Let me know if you have other questions!
