chamomile tea for infants?
Has anyone ever heard of this technique or used it before?
My DD is almost 3 weeks old and at night she appears very gasy and uncomfortable. She seems like she is straining to pass gas or a bowel movement. She is cranky and fussy because of it. Our dr. suggested giving her a small amount of chamomile tea before bed time. It seems so odd to me to offer this to an infant. Has anyone used this remedy before?
If not...any other suggestions?
Thanks

Re: chamomile tea for infants?
My mom used to give it to both my brother & myself for gass & to calm us & she said it worked.
I am adding to explain how my mom used to make it. Not sure how your Dr suggested giving it to your DC. She would boil water & drop the tea bag in it as if she were making actual tea & then mix the powdered formula in it & give us that to drink.
Also, Chamomile is a main ingredient in Hyland's Colic drops.

Never tried it, but my DS is 4 weeks and we are having the same problem. Around 4 am every night he is up with the most awful gas. If you try it and it works please let me know.

She can get decaff tea. I have Lipton's caffeine free camomile tea at home.

Re: chamomile tea for infants?
Read the label, but most chammomile teas are caffeine free. We tried it with DS around this age for gas and colic. I don't think it helped a lot, but it doesn't hurt! We had to mix it in his formula though, so I don't know if that affected the tea. He wouldn't drink it plain.

chamomille tea is caffine free.
i used it every night from about 3 weeks will ds was about 5 months - i also gave him a little during the day.
i started using it bc coming from an italian family thats what we do i asked the ped he said it was ok. italian speciality stores sell chamomille tea and on the packaging it states from birth on for fussy gassy babies

Re: chamomile tea for infants?
Chamomile is naturally decaffinated so it's safe. Serve it luke warm, about an ounce. It worked wonders for my LO when he was a newborn.
Try Gripe Water too!

We are going to try that. We also use gripe water, which works depending on the night.

Re: chamomile tea for infants?
My siblings and myself all received chamomile tea and fennel tea to help soothe us. My mother swore by fennel tea (boil fennel seeds then strain them) for gas. My brother was colic and had gas issues and he got a bottle of that every night. Both are great options.

my Polish grandma actually scolded me for not doing this but DD's mostly outgrown her gas issues so it's a moot point now. will def consider if they resurface or if she gets sick.

Re: chamomile tea for infants?
wow, I was just going to ask if anyone heard of it too.
We were just at the doc today, he recommended the same thing! He said to add some brown sugar to it, about 1 tsp per 4oz. He said The sugar works to distract them from the discomfort right away.

It may depend on the baby. DS is 6 weeks tomorrow and we were told its fine, just not instead of any of his normal meals. DS is growing rapidly and eating like crazy, so doc wasn't concerned about doing it with him.
