Can we talk breast pumps and registering?
So I'm in the proces of registering and there are so many breat pumps and accessories to choose from and i have no idea what i'll actually need. Any advice?
I thought i would register for:
the pump
some extra bottles
breast pads
breast milk storage bags?
Is Medela the best? I'm so looost

It depends on what your pumping plans are. If you plan to pump often and pump after returning to work, I recommend the Medela Pump In Style Advanced. It a great double electric pump that's easy to carry to and from work. Definitely get the extra storage bottles. I used the Lansinoh disposable pads. The Lansinoh freezer bags are great.

I do plan to pump after returning to work (3 months) and i'd like soemthing that will hold up to daily use. thanks for the info

I registered for the Medela Freestyle pump - it's more expensive, but is more portable, hands free, does not need to be plugged in to use (has rechargeable batteries), and supposedly has less parts to clean. Since I'll have to pump at work when I return from maternity leave, these features were important to me.
According to Baby Bargains, their highly rated pumps are the Medela Freestyle, Medela Pump in Style Advanced, and the Ameda Purely Yours pump.
I can't remember exactly what I registered for, but I think it was pretty much what you listed above.

I also registered for the Medela Freestyle based on the recommendation of Baby Bargains. The hands-free feature was important to me.

Everything I picked for bfing/feeding is on there.
The pump is expensive so I was told by a few moms not to open it until I've really decided to stick w/ bfing- b/c a lot of people quit early on and then u can't return the pump.

i am going to register for this one as well with some medela accessories lanolin,hydro gel pads,an additional ice pack, pump & save bags, micro steam bags, wipes, bra pads and the freezing and storage containers

What do you ladies recommend for someone not returning to work? I am will be a SAHM, but want to pump so DH can do some feedings. Also bean is due in June & BIL's getting married in August. Do I need a double pump, hands free, ?

I am also a SAHM and see my post above..I just think teh better the pump the easier it will be and that one has many different features for faster pumping and handsfree as well

This thread is very informative, and I will be looking into a pump sooner or later but I can't help but laugh at the lady in this picture "multitasking". On the phone, with papers in front of her. It's just too much!

I wouldn't invest in something like the Freestyle if you're not going to be pumping several times per day. It really isn't necessary to spend that much. I'd absolutely recommend getting an electric pump. It's much more efficient at getting the milk than a manual pump. If you're pumping every day, I'd get a double electric pump since it will take you half the time to pump. If you're only pumping once in a while, you can probably get away with a single electric pump.
As far as the wedding, will you be bringing DC? If not, you will definitely need to pump. You can either bring a electric pump and find an outlet or you can even see if your pump has a car adapter. My hospital gave me a manual pump when I was discharged. It was the Medela Harmony. It's only about $35. I ended up taking that with me when I was going to be away from DS for a while and wasn't sure whether I had access to an outlet. I don't like manual pumps, but it provided relief for the few times I needed to use it.

I don't think I could deal w/ a manual pump. I am not sure how often I will be pumping. I want to establish a good routine & then start pumping so DH can do some feedings. Not sure how to do that yet. Need to do some more research & I am taking a BF class.
As for the wedding I will not be bringing DC. The wedding is Aug 14th so the baby will be under 2months prob. It is outside in DC in the summer (take about hot), and doesn't start until 5:30 for the ceremony. They want me to bring DC but I don't want to be outside in 100 degrees sweating w/ my baby screaming. Not for me. I am defin go to have to pump I was thinking I could prob have some sort of freezer supply. We live close to where they are having the ceremony. My mom will be w/ DC. She mentioned getting a hotel room where the wedding is so I could come and BF when DC needs too. I will figure it out when DC is here & we see how things are going. I rather my mom be at our house more comfortable with all DC things like the swing etc..
eta: I am defin thinking an electric pump.

I have to notebook this. Right now I only have a manual pump on my registry because I don't know if I will be able to do it when the time comes. I've heard so many stories about women who have a difficult time bfing, my mom being one of them. The electric ones are so expensive.

I am also worried about not being able to BF (there are so many reasons why this can happen). BUT, I am going into it with the thought that I will BF and will try it for as long as I can and will pump... I registered for the pump and if we are lucky enough to get it from someone, I just won't be opening it until I know for sure I can use it. That way if something happens, I can still return it.
Also, if we don't get it as a gift, I will buy it from one of the direct suppliers - I've heard you can save lots by doing that.

Not quite about registering, but some insurance companies have lactation programs and you can get a breast pump at a reduced price. I know Empire used to. It can't hurt to call & see.

I gotta be honest LB- I got that thing and promptly threw it away. SO not "hands free" as the stupid flanges kept slipping. It is also a pain to take off and on. I even went and got a supposed "hands free nursing BRA" that I could just wear to work. That ish didn't work either.

I have the PIS Advanced and LOVE it. BUT- if I were in the market to buy another pump I'd probably get the new Medela Freestyle.
