Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
When/if my parents ever decide to sell we would LOVE the opportunity to buy the house (DH is from out of state). If we don't buy it one of my siblings would like to.
If it couldn't be that home, I would love to be in the neighborhood however we wouldn't get the same "break" as if it was being sold from a family member

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
I grew up in Bayside. Unfortunately we can't afford the homes there.
My parents have offered to sell their home to us, but we said no. We really want to do this on our own, and I want my parents to get every penny they can!

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We bought in the same town DH grew up in but one SD north.
I wouldn't have bought in my old town. Too congested and the people have gotten too "snotty". People in my new town are a lot friendlier and laid back.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We wish we could afford to buy a decent house in Oceanside (where I grew up). Even though cost of homes are going down it is still hard to find a decent house in our price range that is not a total fixer-upper. And most condos there are just as much as houses... if not more.

If DH and I should return to LI, there's a good chance we will buy in my former hometown.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
we would have loved to buy and live in kings park ( my home town) but it was out of our price range for anything decent.
Right now we are living in Dh's home town but we just bought a co op here. We arent going to buy our house here though...

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We never even considered it, DH grew up in an area that is WAY too congested & city like for me and I liked my specific neighborhood but could do without the rest of my old town. Its kinda mean but I always say "if I want to see any of the people I went to high school with, I'll go to Pathmark. They all still work there" in a nutshell, that's how I feel about my old town & its a regular town, not really bad in anyway.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
Nope. I grew up on the south shore of Nassau and DH on the north shore of Suffolk and we bought our house on the north shore of Nassau. New for both of us.

I wish I could afford Smithtown where I grew up but can't. My DH is from Huntington and couldn't stand the area (he lives right behind the big H).

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We didnt buy in the same town as my parents are in, but in the same school district I went to, so it was close enough, and we're still very happy.
DH grew up in Syosset and I didnt want to go that far.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
I bought the house that my grandfather owned and my mom grew up in. My grandfather passed away several years ago, my parents bought the house jsut to keep as a second home(which is on the same block as the home I grew up in) They regutted and redid the entire house with everything new.. and sold it to us several months ago :)
It helps that obviously we got a good deal and I like that I am in the house that has so much family history. Although I want to move out to suffolk in about 2 years and get a bigger home.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We looked and looked but at the time couldn't find one that suited us for the price.
In a way I'm glad. I think I like my new town better.
