This has happened to me a few times when I bought broccoli at Stop n Shop. It is so gross. I throw it out. I would never eat it with bugs! I've stopped buying from there. I buy at Iavarone's and have never found bugs.
Stop and Shop produce is some of the most disgusting produce ANYWHERE. And always super expensive to boot.
I have no idea what ghetto farm they get their stuff from but it's truly disgraceful
they source from many farms, all over the country (and out of the country) . including local farmers.
I would not group all farms together...
In my opinion, some stores are better than others which probably has to do with the workers.
I know I was only kidding with the farm comment. But in general their produce is always old- almost rotting most times. I once bought pre cut fruit and didn't look at the date. Turns out it's sell by was 2 days before I bought it. They obviously don't maintain their produce area and for that I blame the stores.

Interesting. Cold water? How much salt? And for how long do u have to soak them?

I usually just fill a bowl with water and eyeball the salt. Soak for 30 mins.
This site that I found says 1 tsp salt per 1 quart.

I'm sorry. I would not eat that. I would have thrown it out and then deep cleaned my fridge while sending dh out for take out. Ugh.

I agree. It's so bad. Even the "organic" produce is horrible.

It was organic and I got it at WF. I guess that tends to happen with organic produce?!?
Yup, they are in the celery often! I just rinse it off VERY good. Gross, but better than eating bug spray I suppose

Just a different kind of bugs do we really want to know what kinds of bugs are lurking in restaurants and food processing plants? critters and rodents need to eat too I suppose.

Yup, they are in everything. Heck, I found a baby mouse inside our cereal, that was packaged right in the plastic bag.

Re: Broccoli surprise!
I grow my own organic produce and am always washing little buggies off. If I was worried about them, all my produce would go to waste. I'll take a few bugs over Monsanto any day!

Bugs are common in organic broccoli. More protein!

Broccoli surprise!
i was at a wedding once, having raw broccli and dip at **** tail hour and there was a little bright green inch worm on the stem lmao. I did not eat it but found that as a sign they didn't use pesticides on that broccoli lol. but little bugs as you are describing, I'd think i'd throw it out and that it was a bad crop and infested yuck
