big black ants
I am having some issues with big black ants. I cannot tell where they are coming from outside, but I find them in packs in my house normally between suinset and 10pm. Like 8-10 in a group and then nothing. I sprayed the foundation of my house with raid every 3 days so far and put traps all over outside and inside.
My house is spotless and I ran my dehumdifier in the basement all the time and have no leaks. I never leave food out, eveything is in sealed containers, etc.
Anyone know what else to do besides bomb the eff out of my house to get these mofos out?

Re: big black ants
sounds like carpenter ants. we had a similar problem. we had an exterminator come a month ago and they're coming back today because we still see a few here and there.

Do you have a contract where someone comes on a normal basis or do you pay for a one time thing?

Re: big black ants
sounds like carpenter ants. You have to find the nest. You will probably need an exterminator. If you need a reference to a good reliable one let me know.

Re: big black ants
def carpenter ants. do you have trees in your yard? we had a large maple that we needed to take down because it had a huge carpenter ant nest in it. once we took it down, the problem stopped.

Re: big black ants
I have ants and ant hills in my garden and thru the walkways so I researched how to get rid of them.
Make a mixture of half sugar and half borax. Sprinkle it around and it will kill the ants. Borax is not toxic to humans or pets, but it is toxic to the ants.
Or you can use instant grits. the grits will expand in the ants and 'blow them up'
Baking soda is also toxic to the ants, non-toxic to humans.

Re: big black ants
They might not be carpenter ants so don't freak out just yet, esp if you get them in the Spring only. I usually get them each Spring and they are from the trees. We have had more luck last year and this year (so far) bc we have new siding and roof but often they find their way in by way of clogged gutters. We have big oaks and lots of trees so despite my wishes for gutter covers, my DH seems to prefer to have to clean them out by hand. As for dealing with them, I have a zero tolerance policy with bugs in the house, I am petrified of all kinds, so I call the exterminator and he comes, does 1 green treatment and they are gone.
