BFP with very underactive thyroid
is this risky to the baby?   I just got my BETA back (which is normal) and at the same time, I had TSH done. It came back at 12.5 so now they need to adjust my meds. Can this be harmful to the baby? Now is critical for development and my thyroid is all out of whack

I think the baby should be fine as long as you get your meds adjusted. I have an underactive thyroid as well, and my endocrinologist had to adjust my dose of synthroid twice so far and i'm only 16 weeks. Just keep on top of it

I was not on meds before I got pregnant, but knew I was predisposed to issues so I let my OB know. Anyway, it was underactive once I was pregnant so they put me on meds and I'm now 20.5 weeks, already had the anatomy u/s and everything looks good. Don't worry yourself - this is totally treatable!

i asked my ob and she said no it is fine, and it is fine to be on synthriod as well. when i got me first beta i got my tsh done as well cause i have hypothyriod and it came back at 7.o so i had to see my PCP and they put me on synthyriod and they are going to retest every 3 mths to make sure that the number are ok. Also my ob say when you get pregnant you numbers elevate.

It's good that they caught it early so you can get on meds right away. It can affect the baby but if you're getting it under control now, that's much better than finding out way later. I'm sending good thoughts your way.

i am on meds, have been on synthroid for 10 years My PCP said I need the endo to adjust the strength, the PCP wont touch it since I'm pregnant. Maybe I will just call my OB with the TSH and see what he wants to do? Will an OB adjust my synthroid?

I would just talk to your endo- they are used to dealing with this and will adjust your meds accordingly. I know my dr gives me a lab slip to get blood taken, then calls me with the results and then will change my dose right over the phone and call me in a script.

Your endo just has to watch you carefully. I had to increase the amount of times I had blood draws. The hormones from the pregnancy can make your numbers go a bit haywire. My synthroid had to be adjusted a few times, but everything turned out fine.

Definitely don't worry, it's actually not that uncommon from what my OB told me. That's why they test so early so they can treat you w/ meds and get the thyroid levels optimal for baby's development. Just be prepared to be tested periodically throughout the pregnancy to check that the meds don't need to be adjusted.
