BF moms- clogged duct/mastitis

I noticed early this morning that I have a clogged duct (possibly two) on the underside of my left breast. When I nursed my son the next time, I tried to massage that area while he was nursing. It didn't work, and actually seemed worse after that. Then I started to get chills. So I figured it was turning into mastitis (I had it once before when I was nursing my older son). So I decided if I spiked a fever, I would call my OB. I took my temp and it was normal. I put a hot compress in my bra for about an hour and kept massaging the spot. The next time I fed my son, I tried to arrange it so his nose was pointing at the clog (I've done this with previous clogs and it almost always works). It's not easy getting his nose to point to a spot on the bottom of my breast, let me tell you! It must have been quite a sight Chat Icon. After that, it felt better, but not totally gone (which is why I think there may have been two clogs). I decided to take a nap and see if that helped. So I ended up sleeping for about 3 hours! Chat Icon When I woke up, the chills were gone but I had a throbbing headache and I felt achy all over. Took my temp again and it was still normal. Next feeding, again I massaged the area while he fed. It felt a little better again, but still not gone. Later, I took my temp again and it was 100.4! So now I think it must be mastitis. Of course, this was after my OB's office was already closed and they won't open again till Monday!! So... WWYD? Ride it out till Monday, keep doing massage, hot compress, etc. and see if it helps? Call primary doctor (he's open tomorrow)? Last time I had it, it was AWFUL! I had like a 102 fever, I was literally in the fetal position rocking on the couch for like 2 hours straight! I don't feel anything near that bad now, which is why I thought I could wait it out till Monday, but not sure if it's dangerous to let it go or something. Thanks for reading and for any advice!

I wouldn't wait it out. Call your primary doctor or OB if you can leave a message for them to call you back. If you are already feeling crummy I don't think it will get better on it's own. When I had it, I didn't even have to go into the dr...they just called in a script for me.

Feel better! Mastitis is no funChat Icon Chat Icon

See if you can contact your OB through the answering service. They will just call in a script. Otherwise see your GP ASAP.

I also take Lecithin daily to prevent clogs. It may prevent some in the future.

Feel better!

I would call my ob or family doc if they are open or I would go to a med express or redi med to get a script. By Monday you could be really sick and I just wouldn't take that chance.
