Being a SAHM..

is by far one of the most hardest jobs i've ever had..I quit my job in August and i don't think i've ever been so stressed and exhausted in my entire life. I am so filled of different emotions..one minute i love EVERYTHING about my new life and the next minute i can't wait until 7:30 when my children are off to bed. I know this will get easier for me by next September when DS is in kindergarten, and my DD is not an infant anymore..but wow this has been pretty intense, esp. the last few weeks with being stuck in the house and having sick children. UGH..just had to vent tonight.

I feel ya. I remember the most stressful exhausting days at work were NOTHING compared to every day as a SAHM. I have 2 year old twins!

I feel the same way. Some days are great, but others I just can't wait until bed time. It's definitely the hardest job that I ever had, but it's by far the best and most rewarding.

Re: Being a SAHM..

Yup. I could've written this. I left my job in June. DS goes to preschool everyday for about 3 hours and my 19 month old is home with me. I count down the time for naps ans bedtime some days and other days it flies and it's great.
So much more positive than negative so can't complain.
I did, however, recently get hired for part time to work from home so it does put a cramp in my day. I work mostly at nap time ans when DS 1 is in preschool.
I don't miss the morning rush to get the boys ready for daycare and me ready for work.
I don't miss rushing my evenings getting everything packed and washed for daycare either, rush cleaning, etc.

DH is a big help, but since being home I take most of it on now. I appreciate my quiet times at night with a glass of wine too or getting a girls night. Chat Icon

At least i know my feeling are normal then, as much as i complain some days, i still have zero desire to go back to work..In fact, i'm surprised at how much i really don't miss the job that i worked at for 12 years and really liked. But it was a stressful job in manhattan with a really LONG commute..don't miss that part one bit. I should also add that for me, being a SAHM is much more rewarding.

AGREED. Love it and wouldn't change a thing (although I only have one 8 month old now) but it is EXHAUSTING - especially being that DH works 6 days a week, late nights and is rarely home. Some days are great, some are difficult.

Lol. Yup... Was with my job for 12 years as well. Sooo much more rewarding and love being outside on days it's nice out.
Although I do feel bad that DS 1 got a better education starting as a baby at daycare. I feel like I don't have that teaching bug in me for DS 2. I try though. Lol
The boy doesn't sit for any classes we've gone to. LOL

Being a SAHM..

Winter is hard. I am on my 6th year sah. Summer is wonderful.
Try and meet people. It is so much better to sit at a park with a friend.
The biggest issue for me is access to the kitchen all the time.

I give so much credit to twin (and triplet and more) mommies. It has to be so difficult to have 2 the same age, especially as babies and toddlers. You're doing great with those cuties Gina! Chat Icon

Re: Being a SAHM..

I think most SAHM moms feel the same. Its really hard work and some days I'm left wanting to pull my hair out! Other days I wish the day would last all day.

I.feel.the same way. I have 2 boys, 3&2.5 years old. I'm more exhausted then I was getting into work at 6am. This weather & sickness going around doesn't help bc we are getting cabin fever. I can say though, as they get older, it is one of the most rewarding jobs.

It's really hard with babies and toddlers! Especially in winter, between sickness and cabin fever.

My kids are past that stage now-- I've been a SAHM for 7 yrs, one kid is in FT school and one is in PT preschool, and I have to say, it gets much easier and more "balanced". During the baby/toddler stages I often felt my working mom friends had it a little easier. Now during the school-age stage, I often feel that I have it a little easier as a SAHM.

Even at its hardest though, I'm really glad I stuck it out... it's been really rewarding to have as much time as I've had with both kids Chat Icon

Being a SAHM..

I have a love hate relationship with being a SAHM. I also work from home over 30 hours per week which makes it tough.... I need to work on certain things to make my life easier. Instead of doing the bottles, cleaning and laundry all at once, I spread them all over during the day so I feel like I never get a break. I just signed up for some library courses for the spring which I hope will help.

I was laid off shortly after I had DD and I was home with her until she was 9 months..as much as I loved it, those 9 months kicked my arse. There would be days when I could brush my teeth until like noon! I was exhausted and always cranky. Now, as much as I miss DD, she's got a full schedule and there are tears when I leave, her nanny keeps her occupied with playdates and DH is home otherwise, so it works out. But SAHMs.. hats off.. I bow down!

In 2 years both of my kids will be in school full time. I look at is as semi retirement Chat Icon

Re: Being a SAHM..

It's not always easy being a SAHM!! And it infuriates me if anyone implies how easy we have it!

It has its ups and downs..some days are amazing and some drain the crap out of you..I would get jealous here and there of my DH running out the door to work. He doesn't have to listen to arguing, demands, face a dirty house that was JUST clean the day before, laundry, cooking etc...it's a lot!! But it does get better. The older they get, the better it is in my opinion. There are so many fun activities/playdates etc that happen as they get older and helps keep sanity in check. Hang in there...it'll get better and is so rewarding in the end!!
