Be honest! How bad is it.....
To put your baby's formula bottle in the microwave for 15-20 seconds to heat it/take the chill off from the refrigerator? I know, I know. Everywhere says not to do it -- it heats it unevenly -- it creates hot pockets -- you'll scald your child's mouth -- but am I missing something?!?! I am assuming people with these issues are putting it in for minutes at a time and not shaking/swirling it when they take it out before the feed it to baby. Have you done it before? Is your child still alive and healthy? Be honest with me. I can take it

Why risk it? I just microwave a bowl of water and let the bottle sit in the hot water for 5 min or so.

Pretty bad...even if nothing happens to most babies wouldn't you feel awful if your infants mouth got scalded just to save a few seconds?? Not worth the risk IMO.

I know that heating a bowl of water and letting the bottle soak is easy -- 5 minutes is NOT a long amount of time but it seems like an eternity when you have a screaming infant at 3AM!

That's another reason why I never heated up DD's bottles. Room temp water almost every time.

Thanks for the replies, ladies! I agree and will just let DD hang with daddy during the 5 minutes of screaming while I heat her bottle under some running hot water from the sink.

How are you making the bottles? Can you slowly wean her onto room temperature?

That's my goal! I'm gonna buy a Brita water pitcher that's just for her bottles which I'll keep on the counter at room temp. I'm thinking in the AM, I'll fill all her bottles with the # of ounces she is drinking and then just scoop the powder into the bottles when its feeding time. Does powder easily dissolve in room temperature water or does it get clumpy?

It's fine. When dd was on powder I always just did room temp. I only had to warm up an open bottle of rtf that came from the fridge

No I don't but I do zap the water in the microwave for a few seconds when I'm making the bottle because it's cold from the fridge dispenser

I'd just give it cold straight out of the fridge. That's how my DS took BM bottles (and obviously when he drinks straight from the source it's hot!)

I bring a small sauce pan of water to a boil. When put on high flame the water is either boiling or starting to by the time I am done doing a diaper change.
I then put the bottle in it for a few minutes and its warm pretty quickly.

Why don't you get a bottle warmer, I never registered for one and week two of having a newborn and me running hot water over her bottle was enough for me! I bought First Years for $20 and in 1 min the bottle was ready!! I swear by that bottle warmer!

I did it with every one of mine. Never burned them. I'd put it in for about 5 seconds per ounce, and then shake...shake...shake.
Oh, and I loved my bottle warmers too!

Also microwaves kill nutrition in regular food. I would assume it kills some of the nutrition in formula too.

Yesssss! I never had one with my first, but I got one for my second because I was looking to save time anywhere I could. I was kicking myself after the first day of having it because it worked like a charm and SO fast! In a pinch, I did also zap in the microwave, then shook like crazy. She was totally fine. Again, I did it with my second kid, not the first. lol

Throw a cup of water in microwave for 1.5 min and then let sit in water for a minute or so and should be good to go after changing diaper.
