Bad news and devestated
Update - The repeat blood test results came back the same. It wasn't a fluke, no false positive. I have the sono on tuesday. 
I got a call from my OB today that the results came in from the 16 week bloodwork and it came back a 1 in 5 chance our baby has spina bifida  I am beside myself. Anyone have experience with this?
I am exhausted from crying.

I had a similar experience...I got a call from my ob saying my 16 week blood work had an elevated apf level which my doctor over the phone said my little  could have spinabifida or a neural tube defect...she never gave me odds though...they had me come in the next morning for a sono which showed a perfect healthy girl and they said I have unexplained abnormal blood work. They offered me an amino but said 100 % ruled out spinabifida.
Are they bring you in for a sono?

With my DD I had an elevated ago result for spina bifida/ neural tube defect my anatomy scan showed a perfectly healthy baby girl and I went in to give birth to a healthy baby girl

Did they offer to have you come in for a consultation on what to do next.? So many of these tests come back with odds, but many of them are wrong. I'm sorry they gave you such difficult news over the phone without helping you find more clarified answers. It sounds like there are some further testing that can be done to help set your mind at ease.

Please please try not to freak until you have more testing done. I truly believe that test should be stopped. There are way to many false results. My sis had a 1 in 3 or 4 and her DS is the best little guy in the world. I have seen way to many people get bad results when nothing is wrong. I skipped the test because the stress is not necessary.

Try not to get upset, those tests are not always right. I had a child with a form of spina bifida, and they didn't catch it with a blood test. I also had a blood test come back that my DS had Trisomy 18, he didn't.
Have a sono to see if they can see the markers for spina bifida.
Your test still shows that there is a 4 out of 5 chance your baby does not have it.

Hopefully your ultrasound shows something different. 1 in 5 is only 20% (if the blood work is even right, mistakes can happen) which means 80% chance your baby is healthy. These things are wrong all the time. Praying that you get some good news

Praying that the numbers are wrong... try and stay positive. These tests that yeild ratios often give false positives for these things!!!

i would ask to come in earlier for a sono...they shouldnt make you wait a whole week when they can do a sono and see what is going on...when i got the results of bad blood work my doctor insisted they saw me the next morning to rule everything out.
