Back from the RE - really upset

I'm sorry to be Mrs. CrankyPants, but I've had a rough day.

I had a sono today at the RE's office as part of my Day 3 testing. I was hoping they'd tell me I'm all ready to go, and prescribe me something to make me ovulate. We've established that I don't ovulate on my own.

Well, they found a 6-centimeter cyst on my left ovary during the sono. That's like the size of a lime! The doc was really surprised that I don't feel it. But it's so large that it would be dangerous to get pregnant so, instead of Clomid, she put me on BIRTH CONTROL PILLS. She said that the cyst is so large, I might need to be on the Pill for 2-4 months.

To make matters worse, my mother died of ovarian cancer and I'm really (understandably) freaked out and upset by the thought of anything that large growing on my ovary. I'm twice as likely as the average woman to get ovarian cancer in my lifetime. The doc ordered some extra tests for me - a CA-125 and tumor markers - to make sure that the cyst is benign and ease my mind. I'll find out on Monday.

I was literally crying so hard on the way home from the doctor's office, I had to pull over to the side of the road. This s ucks.

I'm so sorry to hear about that...I hope all is well and that they can shrink the cyst or have it burst whatever it does.

Oh no!!!I'm so sorry. Are the BC pills to shrink the cyst? they can't remove it? It's understandable that you are freaked out and worried.

I know it sucks but I would look at the BC as a blessing in disguise - what if you had gotten pregnant and something terrible happened because of the cyst? At least they found it now? I'm sorry, I'm sure it's not a consolation but just trying to see the bright side in this. I would also be so upset if I were you.

oh, i am so sorry, Dava
however, on a positive note, I am pretty sure that this cyst might be causing anovulation, so when its gone, you have a great chance of ovulating on your own and not needing clomid

dava... im soooo sorry!!! i cant even imagine how you might be feeling right now! im glad the doctors are doing the ca-125 and some other tests to make sure all is benign thats the last thing you need to be worring about! i pray that all tests come back normal and that you will be back on the TTC wagon asap!!! is there anything they can do for the cyst if its nothing but just a cyst?... i remember during my surgery rotation they did laproscopy on a woman who had ovairan cysts they were LARGE and they drained them. and on 1 they did a biospy on the fluid (i think to see why it kept coming back) i dont recall the whole case but i thought it was cool i got an upclose and person anatomy lesson of all woman parts

I am so sorry Dava. I had 3 cysts and they went away . I've heard about girls being put on birth controll pills in order to regulate their cycles. Look at it this way you will soon have normal cycles and be ovulating.

I'm so terribly sorry to hear this.

I think though... it may not seem so now, but this is probably a good thing. To find it now (while you aren't pregnant) and fix it now so you can get pregnant and go full term.

I know it puts a damper on things and sets you back for a little bit. But try to focus more on the positive part of it all. I'm all works out for you and that it is benign and all will be well in a short time.

im so sorry for your news. i cant begin to imagine how this would make you feel. i had a similar experience (with bad news from RE) and it was crushing. ill be saying some prayers for you but in the meantime have yourself a glass of wine (or anything you enjoy) and try and breathe.

Hopefully once you get off the pills you will be regulated and have a better chance of getting pregnant sooner.

OMG-so sorry to hear this. The good news is that you're being treated by a doctor and that you found the cyst-imagine if you didn't??

Oh I am so sorry that really had to be hard for you. I hope that it isn't related to your mothers cancer. for you and your DH to make a quick come back to TTC

Oh wow, I went out to grab the prescription and came back and saw all these messages. Thank you! It's nice to be able to share this with people who understand.

I'm trying to think of the plus-side: my acne should lighten up considerably from the Pill. I won't have to worry about drinking while I'm on vacation later this month. I will be able to take Claritin during the height of hay fever season (the RE said not to during a 2ww). DH contributed that he's excited my bra size will increase by about a cup-and-a-half by next week (). Also, as some of you mentioned, it's a good thing that this was found - if it shows signs of bursting, I'll know what it is and get right to the hospital.

With luck, this thing will go away on its own without surgery and I'll be back ttc before the end of the year.

Im so sorry you are going through all this, but its a good thing they found that sucker now especially with your family history.

Sorry you are going through all this, but i am happy you have a positive outlook on things. It will all work out and like the other girls said regulate your cycles. Enjoy your vacation! I will keep u in my prayers

oh dava what a f*cking bummer. there are so many speedbumps on this TTC highway. (sorry for the stupid metaphor). i wish u lots of strength and resolve to see this through. thinking of you.
