Baby Girl Name Poll
DH and I have been going back and forth between several names. So, even though I am only 22 weeks, I figured I'd do a poll! Please vote!! Also, keep in mind that we have a common Irish last name that starts with an "N." TIA!
ETA: FYI- Maebh and Aoife are traditional and popular Irish names [at least in Ireland they are! ]

I love Reilly...I just think in school the pronunciations will be butchered on the Irish names.

I totally agree. We would probably have to spell Maebh the American way if we go with that one: Maeve. Aoife is a pretty hard sell all around!

Re: Baby Girl Name Poll
Man i love the Irish names...DH has nixed them all. I tried Aoife for months (we are having a now so not an issue) but he was concerned about the pronunciation here in the states. What about Maeve instead of Maebh since it's a little easier on folks here but still gorgeous?
We have very similar taste in names - every single one of them has been on my list for years!!!!! I cannot even vote beyond the Irish names.
ETA: I have an Irish naming book called "Beyond Shannon and Sean" if you wanted to borrow it I would be happy to send.

I agree with the PP, perhaps Maeve instead of Maebh........I loove traditional Irish names, but I would be afraid no one would know how to pronounce them

I love Mackenzie with your last name!!! Chloe and Reilly are my 2nd and 3rd picks....I also like the spellings posted above. love the irish names, but I think they'd get butchered in school! I have the same problem with finnish names in my family (Aulis, Jussi, Mirka, Arja etc....plus DH would never go for them!).....good luck picking, they're all beautiful names!!!

Re: Baby Girl Name Poll
Hi Gabi!!! Another vote for "Maeve", with the Anglicized spelling here!! The name is sooooo beautiful, I'd hate for to spend half her time in school being called "Mabe" or even worse "May-beh"!!! My sister's name is Nuala, which isn't event "that" tricky and just about every teacher called her "Newallah"
I'm so happy for and for you Gabi, it sounds like you're REALLY enjoying things now!!!!!

Re: Baby Girl Name Poll
I'm a sucker for traditional irish names so I chose maebh. My friends just had a baby girl and named her Niambh (I think that's the spelling, but it's pronounced Neeve), and i think it's beautiful.

At first I just glanced over Maeve but it kind of grows on you. It's different and unique. I don't really know Irish names except the common ones. So I like Maeve and Mckenzie. Good Luck!

Re: Baby Girl Name Poll
I love the name Aoife, it is beautiful.
It is true that she will have to prompt/correct everyone on how to say it - my little sister also has a traditional Gaelic name; it's Siobhan (shuh-VAWN), no one could pronounce her name. I had to do it also everyone called me Jeanie instead of Jeannine, you get used to it though

Re: Baby Girl Name Poll
Being DH & I are Irish, we love Irish baby names BUT generally only the boy ones (the girl ones will get butchered).
I guess I like Reilly.
P.S. FYI, even in Ireland today, they are using more traditional "american style" names. The dated Irish names are being to fade.
