Atlantic City with 8 month old
Just informed that my inlaws have planned an overnight trip to Atlantic City in two weeks...I am expected to go with my then 8 month old son.
Anyone feel this is a bit odd??

Way more than just odd What do they expect you to do? There isn't much to do with a kid except go shopping or walk on the boardwalk No fun!

Re: Atlantic City with 8 month old
Ugggh! My DH just told me his family is planning a trip to AC next month when my DD will be 8 months...It is to celebrate a birthday and Im expected to go as well. It will be an overnight trip. I plan on going to dinner with them, and then staying in the hotel room with Dd and ordering room service and a movie while DH plays with his fam! They have a nice new mall, so hopefully we will shop the next day before we leave.

This is a family member's birthday wish. He said he would discuss it with me, but it seems like its a done deal with the other family members.

I havent been there in a few years...so I guess its not THAT new...but I think its across from Ceasars on the Boardwalk...I remember thinking the mall was nice for AC...like they were trying to be more like Vegas...

I know! I dont plan on bringing DD near the casino...but I also think that there are new rules about smoking on the casino floor and that you cant smoke everywhere.

this is true there are now only ceartin areas that allow smoking and there isnt many of them !!!
i love AC and i would probably go with an 8 month old only if i had no one else to stay home with them and i had someone to stay with them in the room for a little bit while i went to gamble! If you dont like gambling then really there is no point in going IMO

If that were me, my child would conveniently come down with a "high fever" before you were leaving.
Sorry, that just does not sound like something I'd wanna do.

Re: Atlantic City with 8 month old
It wouldn't be odd to me, but my DH is a poker player so we go a few times a year. I would enjoy the shopping - the outlets are fantastic, and like another poster mentioned, there is a mall across from Casears.
Smoke is not really an issue anymore, as smoking is allowed in only certain areas.
I would shop and enjoy a nice dinner!

Yes, I find it odd. A casino isn't really a place for children, let alone infants. I wouldn't go if I didn't feel comfy.

Re: Atlantic City with 8 month old
I took my dd there by choice when she was 9 months old and it was very boring. We took turns gambling and pushing dd around the casino (nOnsmoking areas of course). It was summer so we did things outdoors but I wouldn't take a baby to a/c again bc there's just not much to do with a little one.

Re: Atlantic City with 8 month old
We've gone to AC when Aiden was a baby. We're going back in February and staying a couple of days. We do just what you suggested - lunch and dinner out, some shopping (outlets and at the Ceasar's mall), rainforest cafe, pool at the Borgata, one time we took a day trip to Philadelphia and last year,we did a day trip to Cape May.
We also take turns at the slots:))

Re: Atlantic City with 8 month old
Not odd at all, there are outlets, malls, pool area at harahs. Plenty of walking around. 90% of AC is smoke free.

We used to do this with my DS when he was a baby. Me and my DH like to play poker, so we would take turns staying with the baby. We would also go out to eat and walk around. Since it was only 1 night, we didnt have to do that much. We only went once with both kids, when DD was much younger. It was harder with 2 kids and made no sense for us to go (we are not big gamblers...just like to get away once in a while), so the next time we went (this past summer) we had my parents watch them so it would just be the 2 of us. If your going for someones birthday and you have a baby, I say why not. An 8 month old will be fine for one night

Thanks for the input! Where are these outlets?
Are there places to shop in the Borgata?

For the outlets, If you're staying at the Borgata you would need to drive by Ceasers casino I would personally park in their parking carage which is smack in the middle of the outlets. It's about a 5 minute ride from the Borgata. Worth going to waste some time but don't expect so much of an "outlet price". Inside the Borgata I didn't see a lot of shopping areas a high end mens store, womens store, a store that sold keychains, pajamas, t-shirts, chips, drinks, magazines etc (the only one I shopped in lol) and aside from that lots of good places to eat. I recommend Bread and Butter and Roma. Note these are the only two places that will take your comp dollars $1 for $1.
I was surprised at how much ciggarette smoke. I know there are designated areas but I felt I couldn't find one. I'm pg too so might me overally sensitive to the smell of it.
Hoping your inlaws will watch the baby for you at some point just so you can have your own time if you like to play. That would be nice! One overnight will go by so fast! Pluse they have a really nice pool and gym. Have fun!
