Aside from a bakery, where can I get an affordable but good tasting cake?
My sons 1st bday is quickly approaching. I do not want to spend a ton on the cake but was thinking from a grocery store, or cosco type place..
Who has good birthday cakes?? I am in virginia, have not been to many long island stores in quite a while so wanted to get some opinions (the party is in NY!)

I absolutely love BJ's cakes - and i think they do photo cakes.
I have had them many times and they are always fresh! Actually people always ask where the cake is from and they are always surprised to hear BJ's!

Bj's, costco-- are both really good-- but Stop & Shop's stuff is good too!

costco has delicious cakes...and the price os right too. I think it is less than $20 for a half a sheet cake.

I'm a total cake snob and believe it or not King Kullen has great tasting yellow cake. I've never had the chocolate.

I help out a friend who does catering and I really like the cakes people get from BJs, Costco or supermarkets a lot better than the cakes that people end up buying from the bakery.

Costco's cakes are really good, especially their chocolate cake YUMMY!!!! I just bought one of their blueberry pies today.

Wow! Thanks so much for all the responses!!! I didn't expect so many 
This really helps me out...it's one less worry in planning this party!!
And not to sound cheap, but we've always done bakery cakes and this time around I just couldn't afford it for this party..I usually love cakes from grocery stores so I'm sure it'll be great!

Definitely Costco or BJ's.
JMO but they are better than a lot of bakery cakes and much cheaper.

I had them make a devils food cake with Cookies & Cream ice cream and cookies & cream icing with drizzled fudge, oreos, and cherries on top. To DIE for! 
It was $24 for a half sheet cake, double layer.

BJs, Costco or for work functions we order from Stop and Shop and the cake is really good. Everyone raves about the Stop and Shop cake.
