Are you overly emotional about your pets?

I swear- I sometimes think there is something emotionally wrong with me.
I get so emotional when it comes to my cats and all animals in general lately.

I can literally start to tear up at my desk sometimes just thinking about them- how much I love them, how cute and sweet and loving they are, how we found them and how they came to be ours.. the whole 9 yards....Chat Icon

I was always an animal lover, but when I got my first cat of my own, I just went off the deep end. I could no longer read stories about pets dying, sick ,etc without bawling my eyes out, I was an utter and complete basket case anytime my cat was sick and when she died, I swear I thought I was going to have an emotional breakdown. I did not handle it well and just promptly fell apart. To this day I still cry when I think of it... Chat Icon

Sometimes I think it's not healthy ,but I just can't help it!

Just curious if anyone else is the same way- or am I the only nut case out there? Chat Icon

I am a nut case!! I am right there with you.. I am always saying that I love the baby just as much as I love Lola!! People look at me like I am nuts!! My Mother is the only one that gets it!! she loves animals too.. This dog is my child and always will be.. "my first baby" I just love her to death.. I sometime frek myself out thinking she is going to die. I count the years I have left with her and how old I will be when she goes.. I cant begin to tell you some of my INSANE thinking!! Re: Are you overly emotional about your pets?

Yesterday I was typing an email to a friend that I hadn't communicated with in a while and I was telling him how we came to get Brinkley.

I was saying how scared he used to be, and pasted a link to a picture that shows his fear. I recognize the signs so much faster, now that he's been with us almost a year.

And I got a heaviness in my chest and started to tear up (just as I am right now typing this) thinking about what he must have felt meeting us, and those few days he was with us before he realized that we were the good guys.

I never knew I could love an animal this much. I can't think about him passing, I just can't.

i definitely am. this morning i woke up cuddling with brutus and i am so sad i am going to leave him for 10 days! i think i am even sadder about leaving him than DH b/c at least with DH we can chat every day and skype!

when brutus ate rat poison, DH brought him to the hospital without even telling me because he knew i couldnt handle it. after it was all over, and i was holding him and he was okay, i still broke down and almost physically attacked the man who put out the poison! DH had to restrain me! Chat Icon

Re: Are you overly emotional about your pets?

I really am a nut when it come to Sushi and I have to state that while I used to like cats (all animals in general really) I was NOT a cat person. People ask me what I'm going to do when the baby comes (I'm almost 7 months pregnant) and I wont have time for her anymore. I'm likeChat Icon Why wouldnt I have TIME for her? Its too much bother to scratch her under the chin? To throw her a ball and play fetch for 10 minutes here and there through out the day? She's my little sweetheart who came at my lowest time and has done nothing but lift my spirits. i cant imagine my world without her Chat Icon

And dont get me started with emotional. . .I was in Petco last night and yeah, I have to go straight over to the poor kitties in the cagesChat Icon There was a black and white cat just laying on the bottom of the case and the sign was something along the lines of "I used to to have a home and place to sleep and parents to take care of me but my mom had a real baby and now there is no room for me anymore" Yes, i cried in the middle of Petco. DH had to drag me to the pet food eisleChat Icon

I am the same way. My little guy Uno was a rescue and he was almost left in a supermarket parking lot but a rescue took him. He lived in a tiny cage with another dog until I adopted him. When I see him rolling in the grass and sitting in the sun it makes me cry because I'm so happy for him to get a chance to live life like a dog! (I'm tearing up as I'm writing this btw) I love them so much, I know exactly what everyone means on here when you say they're like your children Chat Icon

Awww! Yeah the Commack one had tons yesterday- and kittens too! Chat Icon
Heart and Soul is the animal rescue that puts them at Petco and they are great! We got our babies from them.
They don't have a shelter- just foster homes and they display the kitties at Petcos.
I seriously wanted to take 2 more home yesterday- they were all so GORGEOUS!
But I think 2 is enough for my husband! Chat Icon

OMG that commerical. I cry EVERY time. I know if I hear that song on TV I quickly change the channel. DH had the remote one night, was flipping and the commerical was on. Knowing I'm an animal lover he kept the station on and said "Hey look, animals" and I heard the music and I didn't look up. He watched it for 5 seconds and said "errr, nevermind, you dont want to see that.."

But generally, yes. I look at my cat and cry because I wonder what its going to be like when she's not here.

I can't bring her to the vet without crying my eyes out. I make DH bring her because I look like a lunatic. Even calling the vet for a consult I start crying.

By day 2 of any vacation I'm missing her terribly. (Have a 9 nighter coming up and I dont know what I'm going to do....)

Not to talk about if I havent seen her around the house in an hour I'll get up and make sure I can find her to make sure she is OK and hasn't gotten into trouble/run away.

I also will check to make sure she's breathing and if I'm not sure I'll poke her and wake her up in her sleep.

And oh yeah - shes a black cat so I want to get a black cat tattoo (Josh Agle - Shag) but I don't know..

I am the exact same way. I am completely in love with my dog. Her reaction when I can home before was the cutest thing. She heard me, ran down the stairs, i bent down and she jumped up on my knees and started kissing me. She was so excited to see me. I love that!

Re: Are you overly emotional about your pets?

I do the same exact thing when I hear that song/commerical...if I'm in another room of the house I'll scream out to DH "CHANGE IT" and if we're in the room and it comes on, I don't even have to look at him now before he says, "Relax-I'm changing it". I am such an animal person it's ridiculous. A long story but just wanted to share with people who would understand....a few years ago, my friend heard of a horse for adoption. (His owner passed very unexpectedly.) It came down to me and another girl who were "finalists" to adopt him. They ended up choosing me and while I did enjoy riding him, I enjoyed giving him "spa days" as they came to be known more (baths, grooming, grazing)-it became a running joke with my friends that I never rode him. After only having him for 9 months, we found out that he had very aggressive cancer and he had to be put down. But, for all the heartache it put me through, I honestly believe that I was chosen so that he could live out the rest of his life like a horse..running, grazing, and just enjoying his life. That may sound crazy, but sometimes you just need those thoughts to get you through it, ya know?

Ditto.

I am extremely offended when people think just b/c I recently had a baby that I would "forget" about my dogs. NEVER. They are my babies, bottom line and DH and I still factor them into everything we do, as much as we can. We want to teach our DD tolove her furry brother and sister.

Two weeks ago I had to bring my dogs for dental cleanings and I was sick to my stomach at the thought of leaving them. Chat Icon

Re: Are you overly emotional about your pets?

I am totally emotional about my dogs, I particularly was with Schultz, I could look at him and think I could never live without him. But here I am doing it, not easily. It is now 4 months since I lost him and I am bawling tears just typing this thinking about him.
