Apt moving - did anyone rent a UHAUL?

Chat Icon

I feel like such an idiot, but we have a couple LARGE pieces of furniture that just won't fit in the back of an SUV. If we get a small Uhaul, we can just fit everything in one load. Chat Icon

Re: Apt moving - did anyone rent a UHAUL?

Defintely, we needed it. We used a Uhaul to move into our first apartment from our respective parents' houses. We did the same when we changed apartments. We actually used movers to move into our house, because we had accumalated so much furniture. Don't feel silly, make it easy on yourself!

Yes we did that. I think we rented the medium sized one. It was pretty much packed - and we didn't have that much furniture. So the size really depends on how much you have.

try enterprise too. When I used to move locally in NY I would rent a large van from them. Much cheaper than the trucks.

We did not rent a Uhaul and we regretted it. We borrowed a friend's truck and what a pain that was. It took SO many trips back and forth. It was only a 10-15 min drive but it was a lot more work. Get the Uhaul and save yourself the aggravation.

Re: Apt moving - did anyone rent a UHAUL?

we moved a whole house in a uhaul.. granted we donated half the furniture but we still had a ton of stuff... and it was great
pack it all in, move it, unpack.. done
no multiple trips , tryign to figure out how to fit things in a regular truck
go for it.. its acutally pretty cheap if you return it to the place you got it..
we used budget rent a truck it was cheaper then uhual by a bit
shop around and find the best price for you
its super easy!

Re: Apt moving - did anyone rent a UHAUL?

we got the 20 ft., i think and it was a god send. for the $$ we spend, maybe $40 it was so worth it. we got just about everything in there. most of it was still in boxes, but i don't think we could have moved in one day without it.

Re: Apt moving - did anyone rent a UHAUL?

We rented a 26 foot uhaul for a few hours. They charge you by the mile. I would recommend renting one close to your current house. Try and only fit everything in one trip. It was the same price for a 24 ft and a 26 ft so we opted for bigger so we can make it only one trip. The charge for the truck is 40 or 49 and then about 2 dollars a mile. I think we put a total of 8 to 10 miles on the truck. Our bill was about 90 dollars because we rented a dolly from them and I got some insurance thing in case I messed up the truck. Driving a 26 foot truck is an acquired talent and I only drove 20 ft trucks in my past. HTH

We don't have an SUV so we had to rent one to pick up Sarah's furniture when it was in. So easy, they even have furniture dollys to rent if you need.

Re: Apt moving - did anyone rent a UHAUL?

do it every time Chat Icon automatic transmission makes life really easy.

If your apartment is under 800 sq ft, you'll likely be fine with a 10' or 14' truck....

shop around.... the real fee that nails you is not the cheap rental fee ($20-$40), it's that milage fee Chat Icon.... especially if you're moving over 10-15 miles away. Try to get it done in one trip, if that's the case. If you're moving really near by, and think you can get by with a small truck with a smaller fee/mile, DO IT, it could save you $60 or so....

Re: Apt moving - did anyone rent a UHAUL?

I rented a Uhaul also. Just make sure you fill it back up with gas. We forgot between the move and all my contractions, so returned it with a half tank and got charged $80 extra for it!

Price around. U-Haul, budget, all of them. Each have their own deals... mileage ups and downs. Some charge, some don't for blankets and stuff.

We did to move just my stuff when DH and I first moved in together (there were two dressers, a bed, a couch, and other misc items) and then again to move from that apartment to our house.
