Re: Anyone want a Freddy update?

well, Fred learned how to transfer to the car yesterday! His PT worked it out with mom and dad and he was thrilled. He wanted to drive! ok, take it easy..you don't remember what you ate for breakfast..you've got a ways to go..

His OT had a big map of the US like a puzzle and he was able to figure out where everything went. He did well.

The prosthetic company got the new pin in for his leg and the shrinker for his stump and will be sending it out today hopefully overnight so he has it tomorrow. Fred got too big for his artifical leg and they have remake the top of it.

They say he's very strong..good thing. he's frustrated about being in a facility so long (it's been 7 months!) but he is participating albeit reluctantly. Making progress and mom and dad had a good visit with him yesterday.

We can now take him out for lunch or something and get him back into the real world. I don't know how long he will be there but when he gets ambulatory with his leg again I hope he will make even more strides.

I'm very proud of him and my parents. They have really stepped up and done everything I have been doing...even down to picking him up something good to eat almost everytime they visit.

The staff and nurses there are unbelievable. I'm impressed.

How many adults *without* his issues could do a map of the US states without messing up most of them? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well I'm mot sure he did the whole map since I am getting my info second hand, but according to the OT, he did well.

He's pretty smart..he used to read a lot and knows lots of stuff. He's a street smart guy...

he told me to save the receipts from his phone and TV in the hospital because they are tax deductible. I didn't know that! The OT told mom and dad to get a puzzle of Europe and have him do that..I can't do Europe!!

Re: Anyone want a Freddy update?

He's my hero. I'm very proud of him. The nurses are so nice to him and sometimes he's such a PIA to them..he's frustrated and wants to go home. I don't blame him. I would have been begging to go home months ago but he just asks me when am I getting out of here? I tell him soon, but honestly, I don't really know.

At least now he can get out of there for a few hrs. Sometimes that can be harder because he will fight you to go back, BUT just keep reminding him "its progress"!
