Anyone successful getting Cablevison to reduce its rate?
Hi!
We will soon be moving out of my parents house (to our own home!) and so we won't be the ones paying the cable bill anymore. The bill is way too high for my parents to pay. Problem is, I feel bad that they will have to give up so many of channels they've gotten used to.
So....I called Cablevision/Optimum to see if they would lower their rate. I mentioned that I had just gotten an offer from Verizon offering the triple play for $54.99. Now I don't really want to switch to Verizon but was hoping that they would lower the bill at least somewhat. Nothing! Guy offered nothing, and I tried to be really nice.
Anyone have successful with something like this before.? Have any tips?
TIA.

I have heard of a lot of people that have been able to get a reduction or at least to extend their triple play package for another year or two, but ONLY when FIOS is available. I live in the Town of Brookhaven, so I'm SOL. ;)

Speak to a manager. I plan on calling to try and get them to reduce my rate also. Hopefully I'll get a chance soon (like this week) and I'll post how it goes.

They will only entertain you if you have an appt scheduled with Verizon already. I don't know how they would know you have an appt but that's what I heard. Maybe Verizon sends Cablevision a notice on that day your service with them will terminate. A lot off ppl call and threaten to cancel but they won't do anything unless you take action and have something scheduled already. Another thing you can do is to switch over to Verizon then call back Cablevison. They will offer to pay off your contract and offer you a lower rate.

Do you have Verizon in your area? They know, down to the street names, exactly where Verizon is and isn't. If it's not in your area, no deal.
Cablevision set up a dedicated dept to handle people switching to Verizon, but supposedly there are so many people switching back on their own, they are not being as generous with incentives anymore.

DH got ours lowered when he called and said he wanted to cancel a bunch of things to save money.
And I live in the Town of Brookhaven and FIOS has been here for two years

That is exactly right. I actually made the switch, got the confirmation number, etc. I called to cancel Cablevision and they asked for the Verizon confirmation number, I gave it to them and they lowered our bill a LOT for a year AND threw in a free DVR!

Cancel it and switch the bill into your parents name, so they count as new customers and can get the triple play...

My suggestion as well.. remember though when you call someone from your home caller id will come up as your parents name not you to whoever you are calling. so lets say you are calling your friend they have caller id, the name that will appear is whoevers name is on the account. and if you want to switch that to be your name you its a drawn out process, my aunt is going through it right now, they dont make it that easy.
*****, moan and threat, they do come around, but ask for a supervisor dont waste your time with a customer representative, we do it every year!

Re: Anyone successful getting Cablevison to reduce its rate?
WOW!How did you get an offer for 59.99...? I did get something a while back for 79.99, i am waiting to see if i get that deal again, and make the switch. I Did get something yesterday for 109.99, and a free notebook from H/P, and a free wireless, but i would rather have the 79.99 for a year. What is the speed of the internet on the 79.99 deal? is it 10/2? Does anyone know what the speed on cablevisions basic is?

how freakin' stupid! they will pay your contract to get a customer back, but not simply lower a rate for a customer who "threatens' to leave.

My thoughts exactly..If and when they try and call me back, i will tell them.."Too Bad, you should have offered that before i switched".

Re: Anyone successful getting Cablevison to reduce its rate?
I called the disconnect dept. recently b/c the promotion I was on had ended and bill had jumped to 135.00/month for all 3 services. They wouldn't renew the triple play rate but they did add additional movie and on demand channels and lowered the rate to 105/month for 2 years. Def. not as low as Vios, but I'm happy with it.....

Of all the people that call threatening to leave what % really do?
I don't know but they do, hence them not giving everyone a discount when they call.
I'm a happy DirecTV user, have never missed Cablevision

Re: Anyone successful getting Cablevison to reduce its rate?
A friend of mine works for Cablevision. People threaten all the time. He said the best thing to do is actually schedule an appt. for someone to come out and disconnect the cable. That's when they'll do something.

It's already in my mom's name, maybe I can change it to my Dad's?
If I call to cancel with the intention of reconnecting with the new name, will my parents still be able to keep their same phone number? (have had the same one for like 35 years.)

I did this a couple of times.. You say you are cancelling due to financial hardship and take it from there

Wonder why so many people are switching back from Verizon to Cablevision? I know everyone 'hates' Cablevision, but honestly i have no desire to go to Fios because i don't want to sign up for a 2 year contract. I've never had any issues with Cablevision's service, they've always been helpful when i've had to call etc. The only reason i can see for switching is to have mulitroom dvr's.. but thats not a good enough reason for me to do it.
