Anyone put rice cereal in the bottle?
I know this is a controversial topic so I am not looking for opinions but rather experience. DS has reflux and this is always one of the suggestions that comes up - I am not even sure how I feel about it.
If you gave it to your baby, what did you try first? What was the reason? How old did you start? When did you stop?
TIA!

I give my LO a tiny bit and it does wonders for her reflux.

Re: Anyone put rice cereal in the bottle?
I have been putting rice in DDs bottles since she was about 4 months old, also because of reflux. I put half a scoop of the measure that comes with powered ice tea mix of rice to 6oz of RTF formula. You may need to use a larger or Y-cut nipple so your DC can drink the thicker formula. DD is now 8.5 months and I am still putting the rice in her bottles. Honestly, I don't know if it helped as she was a bad spitter-upper and only now it is getting better that she's on solids and moving around more.

Yes for reflux. started with 1 table spoon and then increased until he was doing better based on combo of rice/oatmeal in bottle and zantac

I put two to three scoops in his bottle but the y cut nipples were too fast flowing even then so I use stage two or three. It does help a lot.

Re: Anyone put rice cereal in the bottle?
We did put oatmeal cereal in my son's bottle because of his reflux/spitting up. It definitely did help the spitting up and he is now 15 months old. Has had no issues transitioning to solid foods (when we started months ago) and is off of the bottle completely so it didn't impact him negatively at all. He also outgrew the reflux right before his first birthday.

Anyone put rice cereal in the bottle?
PS....Our ped told us initially to put 1 scoop for every 2 ounces of formula. WHen that still wasn't helping we went to 1 scoop of oatmeal for every 1 ounce of formula (and had to use a larger nipple size to let the formula through). Once I saw the reflux was more under control we started to decrease the amount of cereal and now he has no cereal when he drinks any of his liquids (milk, water or juice).

I do. My ds has very bad reflux and it has made a huge difference. I held off for a while, but my pediatrician finally convinced me. He would often scream for hours after eating and the rice cereal along with axid made a world of difference. Initially he did well with zantac, but that was no longer working. We were switched to axid and that was much better, but we were still having a lot of issues.

Re: Anyone put rice cereal in the bottle?
There is actually a formula I tried with my 2nd child called Enfamil AR for spit up. It helped a lot. It thickens up once you make it, there is already rice in the formula. You might want to give it a try if you FF

Yes I do too.
My doctor told us to do 1.5 teaspoon per ounce. We went down to 1.25 teaspoons per ounce. Used level 3 nipple.
Made a world of difference.
